Mountain Goats are passive wildlife in Windrose's Foothills biome, found on rocky elevated terrain near cliffs and mountainsides. They drop Mountain Goat Horn (a crafting material for some accessories and weapons), occasional Bird Meat, and Animal Fat for Oil Lamp fuel. Goats flee when approached and require ranged weapons or careful stalking to hunt efficiently.
Property | Value |
|---|---|
Threat level | Moderate; goats charge and swing when provoked. Individually each mountain goat has low health, but they spawn in permanent groups and overwhelm players who aggro the whole herd at once |
Aggression | Aggressive within a short radius. Herds will close and chain charge attacks until the player retreats or kills the pack |
Health | Low per goat; a single saber or musket shot typically downs a goat at gear tier 6-8. The threat comes from pack volume rather than per-goat durability |
Mobility | Faster than the player on rocky terrain; can climb steep cliffs the player cannot |
Image | Drop | Quantity | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 2 | Crafting material for some accessory and weapon recipes | |
| 0 to 1 (rare; primary meat is mutton-like, sometimes labeled Bird Meat in inventory) | Cooking ingredient | |
| 1 to 2 | Oil Lamp fuel; used in food recipes | |
Goat Hide | 0 to 1 (rare drop) | Tanning Rig material; functions like Rough Hide in some recipes |
Foothills high terrain (cliffs, rocky outcroppings, mountain trails)
Above Pirate Camps in the Foothills; sometimes act as ambient wildlife around camps
Near Foothills Ancient Ruins on the higher elevations
Use ranged weapons (musket, pistol, blunderbuss) for the cleanest kills; melee chasing is futile due to their cliff-climbing
Approach from above when possible; goats run downhill faster than uphill
Stockpile Mountain Goat Horn during Foothills runs; the resource is gated to this biome and difficult to farm in bulk
Combine goat hunting with Iron Ore mining and Sulfur gathering to maximize each Foothills trip
Wild goats are a less iconic Caribbean animal than Boars, but they are present historically: Spanish settlers introduced goats to many Caribbean islands, and feral populations established themselves in mountainous terrain. Windrose's Mountain Goat fills the Foothills wildlife niche, providing a different gathering experience than the Boar-heavy Coastal Jungle.
