Goats are wildlife of the Foothills biome. They graze on the rocky high terrain, cliff ledges, and ruin perimeters rather than the lowland coast. The clearest concentration sits at the Foothills Ancient Village, where ordinary goats share the area with Nanny Goat and the elite Goat Leader, and the same village hosts the altar that rewards the Boar Whistle. Because goats move faster than the player on slopes and can climb ledges you cannot, a ranged opener with a Musket or Pistol lands the first hit before the herd closes.
The standard Goat sits between the timid Nanny Goat and the elite Goat Leader in durability. A related passive grazer, the Mountain Goat, shares the high terrain and yields the same Mountain Goat Horn. All members are tagged Animal and Living, so Slash damage is neutral against them and there is no elemental weakness to exploit; raw weapon damage and stagger pressure carry the fight.
Variant | Health | Defence | Behavior | Signature Drop | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1,520 | 0 | 200 | Charges when provoked | Mountain Goat Horn (30%) | |
720 | 0 | 200 | Flees on aggro; outruns sprint | Bezoar (100%) | |
2,560 | 20 | 240 | Elite aggressive charger |
Rough Hide is the bulk leather feedstock for the tannery line and early armor crafting, and the Goat is one of the most reliable Foothills sources of it.
Bezoar is an alchemy ingredient gated to the goat family, which makes goats the go-to farm when an alchemy recipe calls for it.
Mountain Goat Horn feeds select accessory and weapon recipes.
Head of a Mountain Goat Leader is a rare 5% trophy roll from the standard Goat; the Goat Leader drops it far more often at 50%.
Goats are not neutral around Wolf packs. If both species are aggroed at the same time, they will commit attacks on each other rather than on the player. Drawing a wolf pack into a cluster of goats and pulling back to a ranged position lets the two sides whittle down each other's health before the player finishes the survivors, which saves potions and ammunition against mixed-wildlife POIs.
This trick is most useful at the Ancient Village POI that rewards the Boar Whistle. The village interior holds goats, the ruins perimeter holds wolves including Alpha Wolf variants, and the altar clear requires killing enough wolves to drop 20 Meat. Pulling the two sides together at the stair-and-statue area thins the wolf pack without the player taking direct hits, and the goat corpses still drop Rough Hide and Bezoar for later use. Watch the low rocks near the statue; a strong wolf lunge can push a goat or the player off an elevated perch, so hold the high ground from a wide ledge rather than a narrow column.
