Cane Sugar
April 17, 2026 at 08:20 PM
Append an Ancient Farm looting route description and a note on using the Tortuga Farming Contractor for hands-off Cane Sugar and Corn supply.

Cane Sugar is a crop used in multiple cooked dishes and drinks. Seeds are first acquired by finding an ancient farm in the Foothills biome (unlocked after defeating the first boss). Once a Seedbed is built at base, Cane Sugar becomes self-sustaining.
Unlock the Foothills by defeating the Coastal Jungle boss (Thomas Richards).
Locate an ancient farm in the south-left region of the map per community guides.
Harvest the wild cane sugar. Seeds drop alongside the raw material.
Plant seeds at a Seedbed built from the Farming tab (requires Fertile Soil).

Earlier community guides described Cane Sugar as a farmable Seedbed crop. The KeenGamer farming guide did not confirm Cane Sugar in its Seedbed list at the time of publication. Treat Cane Sugar primarily as a gathered and looted resource from Foothills Ancient Farm chests until the live build's Seedbed menu explicitly shows it. If you are planning a long-horizon Coffee production loop, do not assume infinite Cane Sugar; plan around chest runs.
Beyond Coffee (4x) and Swamp Pie (3x), Cane Sugar also appears in Banana Muffin (a +10 Precision dish, 30 min) per windrose-db. The Banana Muffin recipe itself is less cross-sourced, so pull the exact quantities from the live recipe book rather than any single guide.
Each Foothills Ancient Farm is both a gathering node and a small loot dungeon. The crop plants themselves grow around the ruin's perimeter, and the chests inside the ruined walls hold additional Cane Sugar and related crops. A full clear of one Ancient Farm typically returns more Cane Sugar than a Seedbed cycle, which is why most players treat the site as the primary supply and use the Seedbed as backup.
Harvest every wild Sugar Cane plant you pass on the way in. Seed drops from wild plants are the only way to stock your base Seedbed.
Break or loot every chest inside the farm structure. The chest pool includes Cane Sugar, Cornmeal, and other farming materials.
Mine the dirt mounds near the ruins for Fertile Soil. A pickaxe is required. The Seedbed itself consumes Fertile Soil to build, so skipping this step means another trip later.
Fight or avoid the wildlife that patrols the Ancient Farm. Foothills enemies hit hard enough that fresh arrivals from the Coastal Jungle should bring at least Copper-tier weapons and armor.
For players who do not want to run Ancient Farm loops, the Tortuga market sells a Farming Contractor service for around 10 gold coins, per community pricing. Once paid, the contractor delivers a fixed crop supply to a base storage chest on a periodic tick, covering Cane Sugar and the other Foothills staples. Treat this as a quality-of-life upgrade for mid-game runs rather than an early-game tool: the gold cost is significant for a first-time visitor to Tortuga, and manual Ancient Farm runs remain faster in the first hours of any save.
