Book Set 1 is one of the bundled bookshelf-style props in the Books decoration line. It is built from Hardwood rather than plain wood, and it carries double the structure of the single Book, so it holds up better to incidental damage around a busy base.
Like every buildable decoration, this piece only takes effect when it is placed inside the radius of a Bonfire. Anything set down beyond that range is still visible but contributes nothing to the homestead, so cluster your decorations around the fire to get the bonus.
It feeds the homestead Comfort System, granting Comfort +1 from the Books category. The bonus does not stack: placing several books of the same category still yields a single +1, so spreading points across different decoration categories raises overall comfort far more than hoarding duplicates.
The numbered book sets are visual variants in the same comfort category, so they are interchangeable for the +1 bonus:
