Added design philosophy section (arcade vs simulation balance) and a link to system requirements
WARDOGS is developed by BULKHEAD, a studio based in the United Kingdom, and published by Team17. The game grew out of a popular community-made game mode in the king-of-the-hill style, and the original creators of that mode are co-developing the standalone version, carrying its large-scale, persistence-focused design into a full product. The project has been in development for more than three years.
Technically, WARDOGS is built on Unreal Engine 5, with a proprietary layer the studio calls the War Dynamics Framework added on top to drive its vehicle and weapon behaviour. That framework was developed with input from real-world aerospace and ballistics experts to give grounded vehicle handling and consistent weapons, using real-world ballistics, audio, and flight models. The team has framed the game as sitting between a hardcore military simulation and a faster, more arcade-style shooter. It uses a kernel-level anti-cheat system and launches with support for fourteen languages. Official PC system requirements have been published for both a minimum and a recommended hardware tier.
The studio sums up its stance as a hardcore shooter that does not forget it is a game. Where players disagree on how realistic a system should feel, the team has said it draws its own line, citing the kill camera as one example, and treats that judgement as an ongoing approach for early access rather than a single fixed ruling. The aim is to keep the simulation depth that makes the combat feel grounded while staying accessible enough to remain fun.
WARDOGS is planned to launch first on PC through early access, targeted for summer 2026 after the date was brought forward. The developers expect an extended early-access period, of roughly one to two years, before a full release. Versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are confirmed for a later point, with no firm date attached yet. An invite-only pre-alpha test is already underway, and the game had passed 500,000 wishlists ahead of launch.
Full pricing has not been detailed, but the developers have committed to a player-friendly approach: no battle pass and no pay-to-win mechanics, with cosmetic items earned through play rather than required purchases.
