WARDOGS is developed by BULKHEAD, a studio based in the United Kingdom, and published by Team17. The game grew out of a popular community-made game mode in the king-of-the-hill style, and the original creators of that mode are co-developing the standalone version, carrying its large-scale, persistence-focused design into a full product. The project has been in development for more than three years.

Technically, WARDOGS is built on Unreal Engine 5, with a proprietary layer the studio calls the War Dynamics Framework added on top to drive its vehicle and weapon behaviour. That framework was developed with input from real-world aerospace and ballistics experts to give grounded vehicle handling and consistent weapons, and the team has framed the game as sitting between a hardcore military simulation and a faster, more arcade-style shooter. It uses a kernel-level anti-cheat system and launches with support for eleven languages.
Release plans
WARDOGS is planned to launch first on PC through early access in 2026, with the developers expecting an extended early-access period, of roughly one to two years, before a full release. A full multi-platform launch, bringing versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, is targeted for 2027. An invite-only pre-alpha test is already underway.
Business model
Full pricing has not been detailed, but the developers have committed to a player-friendly approach: no battle pass and no pay-to-win mechanics, with cosmetic items earned through play rather than required purchases.
