The Relentless

Created The Relentless page from the studio’s own descriptions of the elite unit
The Relentless are the elite unit of the Eternal Guard in Valor Mortis. They were first shown in the November 2025 "Crimson Plague" gameplay trailer and described at greater length in a March 2026 development update, and they are the one group in the game the studio has said was corrupted deliberately rather than by accident.
The description has stayed consistent across both posts:
Point | The studio's description |
|---|---|
Loyalty | Elite soldiers, endlessly loyal to Napoleon's cause |
Recruitment | Long lines of volunteers wait to join, but only the most resilient are accepted |
Where they are made | Secret training facilities |
What is done to them | They are nephto-infused |
How they fight | Inhuman aggression, speed and strength; faster and more dangerous than anything encountered before them |
Weapon | Massive greatswords |
Appearance | They hide their faces in battle |

The distinction matters for the story. Ordinary corrupted soldiers and villagers are victims of the plague. The Relentless volunteered. The studio frames the infusion as a selection process with an attrition rate, saying only the most resilient survive the preparation, which turns Nephtoglobin from an epidemic into a weapons programme the Empire is running on its own men.
The March 2026 update went further than the trailer and lifted one of the helmets, publishing a look at what is underneath. The studio presented it as an answer to why so few survive the training rather than as a design showcase. It did not describe what the image shows in words, so the reveal exists as art rather than as a written claim.
The Relentless have not been confirmed as a boss fight. They are presented as an elite enemy type, which places them alongside the armoured soldiers rather than alongside General Lothaire or The Orphan. A greatsword and the speed the studio attributes to them point at wide, committed swings that punish standing still, so the Combat page's spacing tools matter more here than its parry windows, but no first-party account of their attack set has been published.
As of September 13, 2026, across the official store listing, the official site, the studio's Steam development posts and the published trailers, the studio has not said how many Relentless there are, where the training facilities sit in the world, whether any of them are named individuals, or whether William encounters them in a scripted set piece. The unit has appeared in trailer footage and concept art; no first-party source has placed a Relentless fight in either the October 2025 playtest or the 2026 demo.
