Expanded with Mordred library and Tyronoe Ferryman boss-fight details, traversal corridor coverage, and visual design notes
The Mirror Space Folded Realm is a recurring dimension-shifting area in Tides of Annihilation. Created by the sorceress Tyronoe, it is a space where reality bends: architecture folds in on itself, gravity changes direction, and the environment transforms around the player in real time.
The fold realm sequences draw direct visual comparisons to the hallway scenes in Inception and the dimension-warping sequences in Doctor Strange. Buildings twist and rotate. Bookshelves hang from ceilings. Corridors reshape themselves mid-traversal. The developers use these sequences as both platforming challenges and atmospheric set pieces.
The Mirror Space appears in at least two confirmed scenarios:
The Mordred boss fight takes place in an inverted library where the fold realm warps the arena during combat. Bookshelves form walls and platforms, and the room reshapes as the fight progresses.
The Tyronoe boss fight uses the Mirror Realm as a core mechanic. Players shift between the normal world and the Mirror Realm to attack Tyronoe and break her magical barriers.
Outside of boss fights, fold realm sections function as platforming corridors. The 11-minute extended gameplay video shows Gwendolyn running through a fast-paced sequence where architecture reshapes around her. These sections break up the rhythm between exploration and combat, offering a distinct gameplay feel.
Tyronoe created the Mirror Space Folded Realm barrier as part of her betrayal of the White King. The barrier separates dimensions, and Tyronoe is one of the few entities capable of crossing it freely. Whether other fold realm instances exist independently of Tyronoe or whether they are all extensions of her creation has not been clarified.
The game's level design takes inspiration from the Metroidvania genre, featuring interconnected levels with shortcuts. The fold realm may function as connective tissue between otherwise separate areas, linking London and Avalon through dimensional passageways.
The first major showcase of the fold realm in pre-release footage is the Mordred boss encounter. Gwendolyn and Mordred fight inside a library where bookshelves hang from the ceiling, walls rotate during the fight, and architecture rebuilds itself as the encounter progresses. The arena reshaping is woven into combat: a corridor that opens up for a flurry of attacks may collapse into a vertical drop seconds later. The fight ends with a confrontation framed by both physical and dialogue exchanges.
The November 2025 trailer placed Tyronoe at the heart of the fold realm system. Her boss arena splits into a "Mirror Space" mirror image of the normal world, separated by a magical barrier that must be shattered to bring the fight back into a single space. Players shift in and out of the Mirror Realm with Sir Lamorak at their side, using his spear to break mirrored walls while Tyronoe spawns spectral maidens and shifts into a winged-beast form. The fight closes with a thrown-spear setpiece that breaks the final barrier.
Outside of boss fights, fold realm sections function as kinetic platforming runs. Gwendolyn sprints through reshaping corridors where the floor lifts into a wall and a wall folds into a new floor in real time. These segments break up the rhythm between open exploration and arena combat, giving the player a third gameplay mode that is neither pure exploration nor pure fighting.
Eclipse Glow Games has openly named Inception, The Matrix, and Doctor Strange as touchstones for the fold realm sequences. The rotating-hallway shots and dimension-warping arena setups borrow visual grammar from those films and adapt it to a real-time playable space rather than a fixed camera setpiece.
In the story, the Mirror Space Folded Realm exists because the boundary between London and Avalon has broken. The sorceresses of Avalon, including Tyronoe and Mordred, weaponize the broken boundary by folding pieces of the two worlds together on demand. Closing those folds, breaking the Mirror Space barriers, and recovering Grail Shards from inside them is part of Gwendolyn's path back to a restored world.
