The Pneuma is a small, passive, edible fish in Subnautica 2 with one of the stranger backstories in the game's databank. Eaten raw it restores 25 food at the cost of 5 water, the highest raw food value among the common prey fish in the current build.

The Pneuma has a large oval green body with a two-toned yellow and blue streak along the head and pale vein-like patterning. Six large fins shaped like blades of kelp sit close together in two rows of three, and the serrated tail fin resembles a knife blade. A small black beak and two yellow eyes sit on the underside of the head.
The entry, generated under the name Pneuma pneuma, describes a relative of the Halfmoon that evolved to mimic the air bladders of large kelp, hiding in plain sight while clamped to a stipe with its beak. The problem is that there is no kelp left where it now lives: the entry cannot say whether the Pneuma traveled from a surviving kelp forest or whether a forest in the Karakorum region went extinct. In its absence, Pneuma have begun swallowing rocks to use as ballast in place of the plants they once anchored to. The assessment calls it an edible prey fish, a sign of ecological turmoil, and advises checking for rocky ballast before eating one.
Safe digestion requires the matching entry in the Adaptations system. A Fabricator turns 1x Pneuma into Cooked Pneuma.
