PC System Requirements
The PC system requirements below are the provisional Early Access tiers. Numbers do not assume upscaling, and the requirements may rise during Early Access as content is added.
Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
CPU | Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | Intel Core i7-13700 / AMD Ryzen 7 7700X |
Memory | 12 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 1660 | NVIDIA RTX 2060 / AMD RX 5600 XT |

Requirements Notes
Requirement | Notes |
|---|---|
12 GB minimum RAM | Reflects Unreal Engine 5's memory footprint and the larger world. |
DirectX 12 required | Both tiers require DirectX 12, so DirectX-11-only GPUs are not supported. This aligns with Unreal Engine 5's rendering pipeline. |
Around 25 GB storage | Provisional Early Access install size; expected to grow during Early Access as content is added. |
Handheld Performance
Subnautica 2 supports two handheld targets in the launch build: Valve's Steam Deck and the ROG Xbox Ally line.
Steam Deck
Steam Deck carries an official Verified rating. The default preset is the lowest graphics tier with ultra-performance upscaling, locked to a 30 FPS target.
ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X
The ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X ship with a dedicated graphics preset enabled by default. The preset is tuned for handheld power limits and can be adjusted up or down. Approximate launch performance figures:
Device | Resolution | Power | Frame Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
ROG Xbox Ally X | 1080p | 30 to 35 W | Averages 50 to 60 FPS, drops into the 40s in heavy scenes. |
ROG Xbox Ally X | 1080p | 20 W | Averages 40+ FPS, drops into the 30s. |
ROG Xbox Ally | 900p | 18 W | Averages 40+ FPS. |
Supported Languages
Subnautica 2 supports the following languages at launch:
English
German
Korean
Portuguese (Brazil)
Spanish (Latin America)
French
Japanese
Simplified Chinese
Italian
Additional language support may be added during the Early Access period.
Cross-Platform Multiplayer
Players on different PC storefronts (Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store) and on Xbox Series X|S can play together in the same up-to-four-player co-op session through full crossplay. See Crossplay for supported platforms and current limitations.
Performance Considerations
As an Early Access title built in Unreal Engine 5, performance is an ongoing area of optimization throughout development. Players should expect iterative work across these areas during Early Access:
Draw distance and level-of-detail transitions in large open biomes.
Loading times when transitioning between biome areas.
Memory usage with extended play sessions.
Multiplayer network performance with up to four players in the same world.
System requirements may be updated during the Early Access period as the game is optimized and new content is added.
