The BFJ is a very large, anchored jelly in Subnautica 2. The name is short for Behemoth Finger-Legged Jelly, and its databank entry records the generated species name Dactylbrachia gigas. It is passive and poses no threat to a diver, which makes it one of the safer large creatures to scan up close.

Appearance

The main body is shaped like a mushroom cap, largely purple with blue blister-like organs across its upper surface. Several thick, muscular tentacles extend from the underside and grip the substrate. BFJs grow on rocky surfaces and have also been found holding onto abandoned seabases. At night the body shows visible bioluminescence.

Databank Notes

Scanning a BFJ produces one of the longer databank entries in the current Early Access build. It describes an animal far more complex than any Earth jelly: internal organs and a developed nervous system, gas bladders that regulate buoyancy automatically, and clusters of eyes that focus exclusively upward and can adjust between water and air. The arms are muscular hydrostats covered in sensory hairs, used to probe the seafloor for chemical resources rather than for hunting, with dense methane-sensing organs at the tips.

The entry closes with an assessment that the BFJ may be the sea-bound state of an airborne organism. Community readers connect this to the Hycean, the floating gasbag predator found above the surface, though the game does not state the link outright.
