Overview

Giant River Prawn is a large freshwater crustacean found in Starsand Island's river and lake zones. As the only species that appears in two freshwater zones, across all four seasons, in any weather, and with any bait type, it is the single most accessible catch in the entire game. Its low sell price of 50g reflects this availability, but it serves an important role as a reliable source of Fish Fillet and a fallback option when weather or seasonal conditions prevent you from targeting higher-value species. Giant River Prawn can also be caught at Cloudrest Lake.

Where to Catch

Giant River Prawn can be caught at both river and lake fishing spots across the island. River zones along Hopeland, Starsand Town, and the surrounding countryside all work. Lake spots, including Cloudrest Lake, are equally valid. This dual-zone availability means you will encounter Giant River Prawn almost anywhere you cast a line in freshwater.

There are no season, weather, or bait restrictions. The only limitation is the time window: 06:00 to 02:00, which still covers 20 out of 24 hours. In practice, this species is available nearly all the time.

Bait and Fishing Tips

Giant River Prawn accept any bait type. This makes them ideal for using up leftover bait that you do not want to waste. If you have a few Bug Bait, Meat Bait, or Veggie Bait sitting in your inventory after a targeted session, toss them into any freshwater spot and you will likely hook a prawn or two.

• Tip: At 50g per catch, Giant River Prawn are not a strong income source. Their primary value is as a consistent source of Fish Fillet for cooking.

• Tip: Since this species appears alongside everything else in rivers and lakes, you will catch plenty of them incidentally while targeting higher-value fish. Do not discard them; process them all into Fish Fillet at the Separator.

• Tip: Giant River Prawn are excellent for completing the Apprentice Angler questline if you need quick catches to build your fishing experience.

• Tip: The year-round availability makes Giant River Prawn a reliable fallback whenever seasonal or weather conditions lock out the fish you actually want.

Recipes

Giant River Prawn can be processed at the Separator into Fish Fillet, which is used across many cooking recipes. Specific recipes that use Fish Fillet include:

• Steamed Fish: Requires 4 Fish Fillet and 2 Leek. Grants the Never Skunked fishing buff. Unlocked via the Junior Angler Trial.

• Grilled Fish: A basic Fish Fillet recipe unlocked by completing the Apprentice Angler questline.

• Sashimi: Requires 3 Fish Fillet and 2 Rice. Available through Beach Festival recipes.

• Shrimp and Fish Porridge: Requires 2 Fish Fillet, 1 Greasyback Shrimp, and 2 Rice. Also from Beach Festival recipes.

Other Uses

• Selling: Sells for 50g at standard shops. Low value makes them better suited for processing than selling raw.

• Gifting: Can be given to NPCs, but the low value means it is not a strong gift. Cook it into a dish first for better reception.

• Fish Pond: Place in a Fish Pond for breeding and display.

• Islandpedia: Catching a Giant River Prawn for the first time adds a new stamp.
