Overview
Flathead Catfish is a river fish species in Starsand Island, known for its distinctively flat head and large body. As a bottom-dwelling predator, this catfish lurks along river beds and only comes out to feed during rainy spring days. At 152g, it is one of the more valuable river catches available in spring, making it a priority target for anglers who want to turn rainy days into profitable fishing sessions. It requires 5 oxygen in a Fish Pond. This reflects its larger size compared to smaller species.

Where to Catch
Flathead Catfish inhabit the river zones scattered across the island, including the streams running through Hopeland and Starsand Town. Any river fishing node will work. When rain begins during spring, head to the nearest river spot and start casting with Veggie Bait.
The rainy weather requirement means you cannot plan for this catch on a fixed schedule. Keep Veggie Bait in your inventory throughout spring so you are always ready when the rain arrives.
Bait and Fishing Tips
Flathead Catfish only respond to Veggie Bait. This is crafted at the Chopper station using vegetables. Make sure you keep a stockpile of Veggie Bait through the spring season.
Tip: At 152g, Flathead Catfish are among the most profitable spring river catches. Whenever rain appears in spring, drop what you are doing and fish.
Tip: Rainy spring days are also good for Crucian Carp (lake, Meat Bait). If you carry both Veggie and Meat Bait, you can alternate between river and lake spots during a single rain event.
Tip: The oxygen requirement of 5 means this is a heavier fish for pond housing. You will need at least a Stone Pond to keep Flathead Catfish alongside other species without running low on oxygen.
Tip: Consider holding these for the Merchant Ship. At double base value, that is roughly 304g per fish, which is excellent income.
Uses
Cooking: Process at the Separator to obtain Fish Fillet. Use in recipes like Steamed Fish, Grilled Fish, and Sashimi. At 152g sell value, it may be more profitable to sell raw rather than process into fillet.
Selling: Sells for 152g at standard shops. This is tied with Emperor Angelfish for one of the higher sell prices among standard fish.
Gifting: Can be gifted to NPCs who appreciate fish. Cooked dishes made from the fillet tend to have better reception.
Fish Pond: Requires 5 oxygen. Place in a Fish Pond for breeding and display.
Islandpedia: First catch adds a new stamp to your Islandpedia records.
