Added the September overworld performance work, raised player caps and the server reshuffle
11The overworld is the persistent, shared half of Soulbound: Online. Step out of a dungeon and the pace shifts: this is a space where thousands of players farm, gather, trade, and quest side by side. It is where you build the power you then spend on dungeon runs.2233A Living, Shared World445566The overworld supports the game's MMO scale. You might tend crops, fish a quiet river, or stumble into a quest line that unlocks an ability you did not know existed. Quests and exploration in the overworld are where you discover the upgrades that make your next run deadlier.7788Player-Driven Economy991010Trade runs on a 100% player-driven economy. The materials you collect through life skills and the gear you make through crafting and base building feed a marketplace shaped by players rather than fixed vendors, so gathering and crafting have value beyond your own character.11111212Growing Over Time13131414The world is built to expand. The studio has said new zones will be added during Early Access, so the map players explore at launch is a starting point rather than the final size of the world.15151616No Roaming Enemies17171818Unlike the dungeons, the overworld has no roaming enemies. All combat happens inside instanced dungeon runs, so the open world stays a place to gather, trade, quest, and meet other players safely. This split is deliberate: the overworld is where you build power, and dungeons are where you spend it.19192020Cities And Regions21212222The overworld is organised around four cities, each with its own character and its own rentable apartments and farming plots, with the beacon regions that feed the dungeons sitting between and beyond them.23232424PlaceTypeWhat Is ThereBeacon RungsVireldaCityThe desert town where the journey starts and where most players set up their first base: the Pioneers Guild, the bank, the Homestead farming plots and the largest block of rentable doorsThe Eastern Reach beacon sits in the town itself and carries all five rungsArcadiaCityThe larger hub: the permanent upgrade lab, the furniture vendor, the bank, and a bar where stamina refills fasterTwo entries of its own, both labelled outside the ordinary ladderNeo-TilusCityThe coastal fishing town, with its own fishing spots, gathering nodes and quest linesNone of its ownFarpointCityThe settlement furthest out, with its own nodes and quest linesIts beacon starts at FracturedEverduneBeacon regionDesert ground between the cities, with foraging and mining nodes and an arenaStarts at FracturedLunar PlateauBeacon regionThe newest beacon region in the buildStarts at Collapsing and runs to Abyssal2525Not every region carries every rung, so a new character has far fewer entries to pick from than the full list suggests. The studio's plan adds a Lunar City expansion and a larger story expansion built around The Foundation later in Early Access.26262727Gathering ground got denser in August 2026: hacking and mining nodes now appear more often and sit closer together, which cuts the walking between pulls.28282929Which Server You Are On30303131The overworld does not run as one single instance. The shared world is split across six named server regions: US, US West, Europe, Europe 3, Asia and South America. Every character belongs to one of them, and the Dungeon Finder's region selector matches you into co-op runs on servers near you.32323333Live Event Locations34343535Two places in the world are named as live event sites rather than as ordinary zones. The Blackwake keep a fishing spot off the coast of Neo-Tilus that is said to hold rare and unique fish, and it opens on a short recurring window. The eastern reach holds two giant robots that the Abyssal Raid sends a party against on its own schedule.36363737Uniting The World38383939Questing in the overworld is also tied to the story. Players work toward uniting the world's cities against the Anima, the threat at the center of the setting, so exploration and the narrative push in the same direction.40404141City and region names describe the Early Access build. New zones are expected during Early Access, so the map at launch is a starting point rather than the final size of the world.42+43+The September 2026 Performance Pass44+45+The overworld got a patch of its own on 4 September 2026, aimed squarely at what a crowded shared space feels like. The client's sprite loading was rebuilt to run in the background under a strict per-frame budget rather than decoding one sprite at a time on the main thread, so a crowd of players or NPCs dressing in no longer causes multi-frame freezes, and a persistent on-disk sprite cache means returning to an area you have visited before loads far faster.46+47+Two changes fix the specific annoyance of players flickering in and out. Nearby players, NPCs, gathering nodes and your tools are now fetched behind the loading screen, so far fewer things pop in after the fade, at the cost of loading screens taking a few seconds longer. And other players are no longer removed and respawned when you cross an area boundary: they stay in the world for as long as you share a room with them.48+49+ChangeEffectChunk swapping split into smaller packetsRemoved the 12 to 30 millisecond frame spikes that hit when a busy area streamed in.Player and NPC interpolationOther characters move smoothly between server updates instead of stepping.Off-screen cullingPlayers, NPCs, doors and gathering nodes off screen are no longer drawn or fully simulated until they come into view.Player cap raisedThe Tutorial and Virelda maps can hold more players in the same space.Spawn broadcast volume cutA joining player triggers about 6 state broadcasts in the hub instead of roughly 75, and rejoining no longer re-broadcasts every entity in the world.50+The shape of the world changed too, though not its geography. Two thinly populated regions were folded into busier neighbours on 3 September 2026, and six new servers opened across the United States, Europe and Japan on 10 September. Which server you are standing on determines who you share the overworld with, and characters cannot move between them. See Servers and Regions.
