Quests - Version 2 vs Version 3
Aug 26, 2026, 10:28 AM
Corrected the Piece by Piece fix dates to 23 and 28 July, removed an unconfirmed quest identification from the studio-confirmed table and described that route fix in prose instead
Sep 16, 2026, 04:52 AM
Added the September questline and tutorial rework and the NPC quest handout fixes
11A quest is an objective handed out by an NPC or by something you can interact with in the world. Quests carry the story, teach abilities, open cities, and gate the higher dungeon rungs, so the questline is not optional decoration. Several of the things a character needs most sit behind one.2233Chapter 1 runs as a linear main storyline with optional side quests hanging off it. Quests are a separate system from the repeatable contracts handed out at the Pioneers Guild, which pay skill experience and gold rather than moving the story along.4455Reading the Quest Markers6677The world marks quests with two symbols in two colours, and the pairing tells you the whole state at a glance.8899MarkerMeaningGold exclamation markA quest is available here and you can take it nowSilver exclamation markA quest is here, but you do not meet its requirements yetGold question markA quest is finished and ready to hand inSilver question markA quest is in progress and not yet complete1010Quest tracking on the world map was made more visible in the 20 August 2026 patch, so the map is now a reasonable way to work out where a tracked objective actually sits. The same patch replaced the dialogue presentation with refreshed boxes, portraits and choice styling, which changed how quest conversations look rather than how they work.11111212What Quests Gate13131414This is the part worth reading before anything else, because a handful of quests are hard prerequisites for content elsewhere.15151616QuestWhat It OpensOnward and UpwardThe Shattered and Abyssal rungs of the dungeon ladder, and the raidsDiplomatic RelationsThe Arcadia questline that precedes Onward and UpwardVesper's ChallengeSeek and Destroy, which does not start until Vesper's Challenge is doneBarrels O' FunA fishing rod, and the route into Just Keep SwimmingFishy BusinessPowering the Everdune beacon, which leads into Caper DiemFeeling FishyAn ability taught by Wilson in Neo-TilusYou've Got MailAn ability taught by Hector in Arcadia1717The two ability unlocks in that table are player-documented rather than named in a patch note, so treat them as a good pointer rather than a certainty. The rest are corroborated either by the studio's own notes or by the gating already described on our dungeon and raid pages.18181919Getting into Arcadia at all is its own gated sequence: clear the entry-tier Eastern Reach dungeon once, take the follow-up from the Virelda Chief, then present the Silver Chalice to the guard on the front gate. Back routes exist but only work in one direction, so the questline is the only durable way in.20202121Quests by City22222323The lists below are drawn from player-gathered documentation rather than from a patch note, and quest rosters shift during Early Access. Names are reliable pointers; whether a specific quest is currently handed out is not something a list can guarantee.24242525Virelda26262727Welcome to VireldaSow Much TroubleThirsty WorkGuns for HireCooking Up a SandstormDune It YourselfBig Fish, Little Fish, Cardboard BoxMaki-ng the Most of What You HaveMean, Green, Killing MachineLock OutPackage DealPoint ProvenSTR vs DEXThe BlockadeVesper's ChallengeSeek and DestroyBlackwake Barry's VoteWhen Good Pioneers Die28282929Arcadia City30303131A Beacon RebornA Little Bit of ReconA Suspicious SilenceBlind RobberyBoard Broken, Ego BruisedCity of Light and ShadowCuriosity Killed ThemDiplomatic RelationsDon't Project Onto Me!Express-o DeliveryFeeling CraftyJesse, We Need to CookLove at First ByteN-EverduneOnward and UpwardOutskirt OutlawRomeo, O RomeoScratching the GlitchSignal on the RailsSmooth OperatorThe Customer is Always RightThe Graffiti TrainThe Power Behind the PowerTraining WheelsYou've Got Mail32323333Neo-Tilus34343535QuestWhat It InvolvesBarrels O' FunFind a fishing rod in a barrel after speaking to Wilson, which leads into Just Keep SwimmingJust Keep SwimmingFollows on from Barrels O' FunFeeling FishyCatch fish for Wilson with the rod you were just givenFishy BusinessPower the Everdune beacon, which opens Caper DiemCaper DiemPlan and run a pearl heist out of the museum basementA Pirate's Life For MeWork with the pirates to help Viper secure hidden treasureBlackwake Boris' VoteOne of three Blackwake votes spread across the worldThe Forever FlowerSpeak to Glub to learn where the Forever Flower can be foundTime on the LineHelp Finnley recover a lost watchTales from the SeaHelp Finnley return an old diaryVinny's DilemmaConvince Vinny to go back to VireldaJungle FeverDocumented as a local quest, with no details recorded3636Everdune37373838Blackwake Betty's VoteExcavation InvestigationMirelle's Lost PagesMonster HunterPiece by PieceResearch DutyThe Levora ExpeditionThe Nyxanthium39394040Other Regions41414242Player documentation also records quests in areas our other pages do not yet describe in detail.43434444RegionQuests RecordedLunarLaw of the Frontier, TremorsThe starting areaSowing SeedsMinamotoAn Audience with M0RPH-OSFarpointListed as a quest region with no quests recorded yet4545Lunar is the best attested of these. Tremors appears in the 20 August 2026 patch as the seventeenth step of the main story, and a Lunar task board is named in an earlier patch, so quest content out there is definitely live even though the studio's plan lists a larger Lunar expansion for much later.46464747Quests Fixed or Changed Since Launch48484949Patch notes are the one place quest names are confirmed by the studio rather than by players, so this table doubles as the list of quests we know for certain exist in the current build.50505151QuestChangeWhenWelcome to Virelda, Sow Much TroubleErrors in both quests correctedJune 2026City of Light and ShadowRowan now appears reliably for the interaction, and quest markers clear once the intel is collected23 July and 20 August 2026What the Cultists Were ErasingFragments made easier to find, a clearer marker added for the fifth, and all of them turned into key items so a full bag cannot lose them28 July 2026Foundational ErrorDisabled across every environment28 July 2026Seek and DestroyStart node, setup and reward corrected, then moved behind Vesper's Challenge so it is no longer handed out at character creation28 July and 7 August 2026Mirelle's Lost PagesPage drop re-enabled, and the fifth page stopped dropping after the quest is finished28 July and 20 August 2026Piece by PieceQuest items made to drop more consistently from Fractured dungeons, then required materials that were not dropping at all restored23 July and 28 July 2026Excavation InvestigationMarker now points at the correct outcrop rather than one several tiers above your level7 August 2026Package DealPaul's follow-up dialogue no longer promises a weapon the quest does not award7 August 2026Diplomatic RelationsThe duplicate mayor left standing in Arcadia after the questline is gone20 August 2026Dune It YourselfVirelda's Chief no longer appears in two places at once20 August 2026Blackwake Betty's VoteNow progresses in every relevant dungeon difficulty20 August 20265252One row there matters beyond a bug list. Foundational Error was disabled across every environment on 28 July 2026 and no later patch has brought it back, so any guide still treating it as a live prerequisite is describing a quest the build no longer hands out.53535454Patch 4 also closed a right-hand-wall route that let players bypass the Daito blockade. That note names an obstacle rather than a quest, so it is not in the table above.555556+The September 2026 Rework57+58+The main story questline and the tutorial were reworked on 9 September 2026 for a smoother run, and several new quests were added in Virelda aimed specifically at onboarding. A new quest also handles the Arcadia station to Virelda station teleport more consistently, replacing a transition that had been unreliable.59+60+Two fixes in the same patch removed the most common reason a quest appeared to be broken. Quest NPCs had been failing to hand out their quests on the first visit to a room, which forced players to leave and re-enter several times before a chain would continue; that is fixed. The quest log had also not been updating when you received quest items, so gathered and delivered items now register on objectives immediately rather than after a delay.61+62+FixDateDetailNPC quest handout9 September 2026Quest NPCs now offer their quests on the first visit to a room.Quest log item tracking9 September 2026Gathered and delivered items register on objectives immediately.Train Defence crash9 September 2026Starting Train Defence at Virelda Station for the first time could crash the game.Quest start delays3 September 2026Multi-second delays when starting quests, picking dialogue choices or progressing objectives in busy areas were fixed. Finishing or restarting a quest now refreshes an NPC's available quests without a pause.Virelda's Chief3 September 2026The Chief had been appearing in two places at once during Dune It Yourself. He now leaves correctly after Vesper's Challenge and appears in only one location per quest stage.Task destinations3 September 2026Roughly 100 task locations across Lunar City, Farpoint, Everdune and Virelda were corrected, so a task's destination shows correctly when selected.Name change quest27 August 2026The Identity Manager quest in Virelda lets anyone whose username was changed by the global uniqueness pass pick a new one.Granny's Gumbo27 August 2026No longer requires planting and waiting for crops. It also now rewards Pyrosphere, which was taken out of the Tutorial Dungeon. The Vacan-Sealer27 August 2026A new quest in Lunar City awards an item that suppresses the random ability offer in dungeons for players deliberately running fewer abilities.5663Quests and Contracts57645865The two systems are easy to confuse because both put a marker over an NPC. The short version is that quests advance the story and are done once, while contracts are the repeatable skill work described on The Pioneers Guild. Contract series carry roman numerals, such as Blades of Trust II or Circuit Sleuth IV; quests do not. Live events are a third thing again, covered on Live Events and Commissions.59666067For the characters who hand these out, see NPCs. For what the story is actually about, see Lore and Setting, and for where to start, Getting Started.61686269Quest rosters, gating and rewards are all being tuned during Early Access, so treat the specifics here as current rather than permanent.
