Pyzifax
September 21, 2026 at 06:09 AM
Added the patch history for Pyzifax (demo crash fix, launch-week music and crash fixes, dated absence from the Autumn Update notes) and the studio's boss design notes
Pyzifax is one of the two bosses available in the Desert biome and the second confirmed boss in the standard progression of Romestead. The fight is themed around a banner-bearing warrior; Pyzifax drops the Cape of Pyzifax Banner and is the source of several Scroll of Vulcan rolls.

Field | Value |
|---|---|
HP | 500 |
Biome | |
Arena | Dedicated Pyzifax arena; outside-arena damage is disabled (patch 0.23.3_3) |
Recommended tier | Bronze to Iron gear with elemental potions |
Triggers | Declaration of War: Pyzifax item; or arena entry |
Repeatable | Yes |
Pyzifax sits in a dedicated arena in the desert. Two important balance notes from the late-playtest patches:
Players outside the arena can no longer damage Pyzifax (patch 0.23.3_3). Cheese strategies that hit through walls are blocked.
Cursed Bone drops were removed from the fight in patch 0.23.3_2 to clean up his loot table.
Pyzifax arena appearance was updated for clarity in patch 0.23.3_0.
Pyzifax's 500 HP rewards sustained DPS more than burst. Bring a Bronze or Iron Gladius/Hasta and a fast bow.
Stock up on Major Health Potion and Antidote before triggering the fight.
Cook a Bakery buff dish (Bread, Libum, or Phoenix Stew once unlocked) immediately before entering.
The Mars Blessing (+10% Melee) and the Ceres Blessing (+25% Health) both shine here; pick whichever you have higher.
Since hotfix 0.25.1_10, Pyzifax is briefly stunned after his spin attack, which opens a reliable window to land charged shots or close in for melee hits.

Pyzifax is one of two desert bosses; defeating him gates further desert progression. The Scroll of Vulcan drop ties his loot table back to the Vulcan worship route. Repeating the fight is the canonical way to roll the random drops you missed.
The studio's pre-release notes on bosses (August 2025) apply here: each major boss drops a unique item to offer to the gods for knowledge in the form of recipes, buildings, technology or building upgrades, plus unique crafting materials and gear, and every boss is repeatable. Summon locations can be found from clues held by the statues in the world. The studio planned four major bosses plus optional minibosses for release and counted five by December 2025, which is the number in the launch build.
Pyzifax was already part of the public demo: demo patch 0.21.1_13 (March 13, 2026) fixed a crash tied to him. A launch-week hotfix (0.25.1_4, May 29, 2026) corrected the Pyzifax boss music so it plays during the fight, and hotfix 0.25.1_11 (June 8, 2026) fixed a crash that could happen while fighting him. No default-branch patch note after that names Pyzifax, checked through the 0.26.1_6 notes of September 4, 2026; the Autumn Update listed no change to this fight.
Desert: the boss's home biome.
Cyclops: the other desert boss.
Enemies and Bosses: all five bosses.
