The Forest is the early-game biome of Romestead, sitting between the Plains starter region and the Desert mid-game. Dense vegetation, claustrophobic line-of-sight, and faction-aligned enemies make it noticeably harder than the Plains.

Field | Value |
|---|---|
Tier | Early-game |
Boss | No singular biome boss; faction strongholds gate progression |
Resources | Lumber, Fruit trees, Mushrooms, Pelts, Bonesplint, Wool |
Climate | Forested, dense canopy, lower sight lines |
Threats | Satyr factions, bears, boars, wraith-like night spawns |
Notable buildings | Some structures receive bonuses when built in the Forest |
The Forest is described as "quite claustrophobic." Trees and undergrowth cut down sightlines, so combat encounters happen at shorter range than the Plains. This favors melee builds with a Wooden or Copper Shield, although bows still work with positioning.
Lumber: dense forests are the best source of bulk Lumber for late-tier buildings.
Mushrooms: Boletus, Chanterelle, and Amanita can be planted from their mycelium counterparts.
Fruit trees: Apple, Apricot, and Stone Pine grow here; Pine Nuts replaced the original Nuts resource in patch 0.22.1_8.
Currants: Red Currant, White Currant, and Blackberry bushes provide alternate fruit.
Pelts and Bonesplint from animal kills; Wool from sheep where present.
Honey via the Beehive.
Forest Satyr: base satyr unit; attacks were balanced down in patch 0.23.1_8.
Tiny Satyr: operates Stationary Catapults against players.
Satyr Brute: heavier melee variant with specific loot drops.
Burning Fallen: fiery walking-dead variant.
Bears, Wolves, Boars: wildlife threats with their own loot tables.
White Deer: rare wildlife added in patch 0.23.1_10.
Forest satyrs can be declared war on via the Declaration of War: The Gray Satyrs item. The Fortified Maze (formerly the Gray Satyr Stronghold, renamed in patch 0.20.2_1) is the faction's main stronghold and a key Forest objective.
Some buildings receive bonuses when constructed in the Forest. Buildings change appearance based on the biome they are constructed in (patch 0.19.2_7). The Watermill and Lumber Yard have placement-friendly setups in the Forest; the Sculptor inside any Forest base benefits from the Lumber surplus.
The Forest is the "second beat" of the early progression. After clearing the Forest of major satyr strongholds and gathering Bonesplint, Pelts, and high-tier Lumber, players push into the Desert to face Pyzifax and the Cyclops.
