Decorating settlements is both a creative outlet and a gameplay mechanic in Romestead. Constructing decorations around a town increases citizen happiness, which matters for keeping a settlement running well. Players who prefer a calmer experience can spend their time decorating rather than adventuring.
Early Access introduced a Decoration Mode, an inventory-free system for collecting, placing, and customizing furniture and decorations. Items range from chairs and tables to lamps, plants, and statues. Removing the need to juggle inventory while decorating is intended to make personalizing a town smoother.
The furniture system was completely overhauled for Early Access, with a clearer interface, smoother controls, and much more placement freedom than the demo offered. This rework accompanied the new Decoration Mode. See Early Access for the full list of launch changes.
Furniture and ornaments can be crafted. The Sculptor, a building added in Early Access, lets players craft stone furniture and ornaments. Decorations therefore tie into the settlement and crafting systems. See Settlements and Buildings for the Sculptor and other production buildings.
