Pokedex Completion Room

Expand with step-by-step room access, Neo-Dowsing Machine details, exact recipe rewards, diploma text, and event Pokemon clarification
The Pokedex Completion Room is a hidden area in Sparkling Skylands that serves as the ultimate reward for registering all 300 Pokemon in the Habitat Dex. This secret room is an homage to the classic developer rooms found in earlier Pokemon games (such as the Celadon City Game Freak office). Inside, you receive exclusive crafting recipes for a Printer, Card Reader, and Shutter, plus a printable diploma certifying your accomplishment.
Most players overlook this room entirely because the entrance is concealed behind destructible blocks and requires a completed Pokedex to open the Area Gate inside. You can actually discover the entrance early in the game, but the gate will not open until every Pokemon is registered.
Before you can access the Pokedex Completion Room, you need to complete the following:
Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
Complete Habitat Dex | Register all 300 Pokemon in your Habitat Dex. This includes Pokemon from all five regions. |
Complete Important Requests | Finish all Important Requests tied to Pokedex progression. |
Obtain Neo-Dowsing Machine | After registering your 300th Pokemon, Professor Tangrowth gives you the recipe for the Neo-Dowsing Machine. |
Reach Sparkling Skylands | The hidden room is located in Sparkling Skylands, one of the later areas to unlock. |
Event-exclusive Pokemon such as Hoppip, Skiploom, and Jumpluff are not required for Pokedex completion. Only the base 300 Pokemon count toward the completion total.
The Neo-Dowsing Machine is a special item whose recipe is given by Professor Tangrowth after you register the 300th Pokemon. Unlike the standard Dowsing Machine (which locates buried items and Glowing Rocks), the Neo-Dowsing Machine is specifically designed to help you locate the hidden gate in Sparkling Skylands. Craft it and bring it with you when searching for the completion room.
Follow these steps to reach the Pokedex Completion Room:
Travel to Sparkling Skylands and head to the island where you first encountered Gyarados.
Search deep inside the island for a hidden cave entrance.
Inside the cave, locate a room with a broken ladder. The ladder leads to apparent dead ends on both sides.
Look for a black-and-yellow striped WARNING panel on the floor near the bottom of the ladder.
Use Rock Smash to break through the panel beneath where the ladder descends.
Continue breaking through the floor to drop down into a small hidden cavern.
Inside the cavern, you will find an Area Gate. Scan your completed Pokedex at the gate to open it.
Enter the room beyond the gate to find the recipe items and the Printer.
The completion room contains the following exclusive crafting recipes and items:
Reward | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
Printer | Recipe | A device that reads your Pokedex and prints a personalized diploma. Functions similarly to the printer found in the Pokemon Center, but can also create any item that you have a picture of. |
Card Reader | Recipe | An electronic access panel that can be placed on buildings. Combined with the Shutter, lets you create your own custom Area Gates. |
Shutter | Recipe | A mechanical sliding door for building projects. Works with the Card Reader to create lockable doorways and custom Area Gates. |
Diploma | Printable Item | A wall-mountable certificate generated by the Printer. Reads: "We hereby certify your achievement of completing the Pokedex. May this great feat be celebrated by all!" |
The Printer is placed as a piece of furniture inside any building. Interact with it to print your personalized diploma, which can then be hung on walls as a decoration. The Printer also functions like a copy machine, capable of creating items from pictures you have collected.
The Card Reader and Shutter recipes together allow you to build your own Area Gates. In the base game, Area Gates block access to certain areas until specific conditions are met. With these recipes, you can place your own gates around your island for decorative purposes or to create custom restricted zones in your builds.
The diploma is a purely decorative wall item. It does not grant any gameplay advantages, stat boosts, or unlock additional content. Its value is as proof that you successfully befriended every Pokemon in the game. It can be placed on any wall inside a building.
You can stumble upon the hidden cave and the Area Gate early in the game, long before completing the Pokedex. The gate simply will not open until the Pokedex is complete.
Check your Pokedex completion percentage in the Habitat Dex menu before heading to the room. You need exactly 300 out of 300.
If you are stuck at 299, check for fossil Pokemon (Amaura, Aurorus, etc.) and Special category Pokemon that require specific unlock conditions.
The custom Area Gate components (Card Reader + Shutter) are popular among players who enjoy creative building, as they add interactive elements to player-built structures.
The room itself is a small easter egg space. There are no additional secrets or hidden items beyond the recipes and Printer.
