Complete rewrite with verified multiplayer details: Link Play via PC at Environment Level 2, 4-player limit, no split-screen, Cloud Islands async play, GameShare 2-player limit, Palette Town full co-op, NSO requirement
Pokemon Pokopia supports multiplayer for up to four players via local wireless or online play. There are three main ways to play together: visiting or hosting friends via Link Play, building together on Cloud Islands, or playing in Palette Town with no restrictions. Multiplayer requires separate Nintendo Switch 2 consoles; the game does not support split-screen on a single system.
Link Play is the primary multiplayer mode, accessed through the Pokemon Center PC. It becomes available once the player reaches Environment Level 2 in any area. Through the PC, players can:
Invite other players to their world
Join another player's world
Create a Cloud Island for their group
Up to four players can play simultaneously across a selected island. Local wireless play requires all consoles to be on the same wireless network. Online play requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
Cloud Islands are persistent shared worlds that anyone in the group can visit, even when the host is offline. This makes Cloud Islands ideal for collaborative building projects where players contribute at different times. There are no restrictions on building or exploration in Cloud Islands.
Palette Town is the only area where full co-op building and trading occur without spectator restrictions. It is the designated space for unrestricted multiplayer creativity. This is also where GameShare works if friends do not own the game.
Pokemon Pokopia supports Nintendo Switch 2's GameShare feature, allowing players to share the game with friends who do not own a copy. GameShare works both locally and online, and only requires the host to have a copy of the game. However, GameShare sessions are limited to two players (the host and one guest).
Mode | Player Limit | Ownership Required | Restrictions |
|---|---|---|---|
Link Play (Online) | 4 | All players need a copy | NSO subscription required |
Link Play (Local) | 4 | All players need a copy | Same wireless network |
GameShare | 2 | Only host needs a copy | Palette Town only for building |
Cloud Islands | 4 | All players need a copy | No restrictions; async play OK |
Build structures and furnish habitats cooperatively
Explore areas and Dream Islands together
Trade items with other players
Complete requests and collect materials as a team
Use Camouflage (Ditto Transformation) for prop-hunt style games with friends
Reach Environment Level 2 in Withered Wasteland as soon as possible to unlock Link Play.
Cloud Islands are the best option for groups that play at different times.
Palette Town is ideal for creative multiplayer sessions since it has no story restrictions.
GameShare is great for introducing friends to the game before they decide to purchase.
