Lacrimosa

Comprehensive rewrite with accurate Chaos element, Esper Constructs weapon, Nightmare DOT, bat transformation, tomato obsession, and ETD-4 affiliation
Lacrimosa is an S-rank playable character in Neverness to Everness. Her element is Chaos, one of the six attributes in the Esper Cycle, and she fights with Esper Constructs as her weapon type. She holds the title of "Sleepy Vampire." She is a member of ETD-4, a specialized containment team within the Bureau of Anomaly Control.
Lacrimosa is a drowsy operative with an obsession for tomatoes. She can transform into a bat for out-of-combat traversal and flight, making her one of the few characters with a unique exploration ability. In combat, she inflicts the Nightmare status, a Chaos-element damage-over-time effect that drains enemy health.
Lacrimosa embodies the vampire aesthetic with an emphasis on drowsiness rather than menace. Her character design conveys a sense of perpetual sleepiness, with half-lidded eyes and a relaxed posture even during conversations. Despite her casual demeanor, her outfit incorporates gothic elements befitting her vampire nature. Her Esper Constructs manifest as floating dark-energy objects that orbit around her during combat.
Lacrimosa's defining trait is her perpetual drowsiness. She always seems on the verge of falling asleep, speaks slowly, and approaches most situations with minimal urgency. During the Hypervortex response in New Helios, she was reportedly disengaged, a reflection of her general attitude toward work rather than a lack of ability.
Her other defining trait is an obsession with tomatoes. She consumes tomatoes in various forms — raw, as juice, in sauces — and considers them the perfect food. This quirk is unusual for a vampire-themed character and plays against the expected blood-drinking trope. Whether her tomato fixation is a deliberate substitution for blood or simply a personal preference is left ambiguous.
Despite her disengaged presentation, Lacrimosa is highly capable when she chooses to act. Her Chaos element powers are formidable, and teammates who have seen her fight at full capacity report that her combat effectiveness far exceeds what her lazy attitude suggests. She is difficult to motivate but impossible to ignore once she decides something is worth her attention.
Lacrimosa fights by manipulating Esper Constructs — manifestations of dark energy that she controls telekinetically. Her combat style is methodical and area-denial focused, creating zones of Chaos damage that punish enemies who remain in them.
Lacrimosa directs her Esper Constructs to strike enemies at range. The constructs act semi-independently, homing in on targets and dealing Chaos damage on impact. Her basic attack chain is slow but hits hard, with each construct carrying a chance to apply the Nightmare status.
Lacrimosa unleashes a concentrated wave of Chaos energy that inflicts the Nightmare status on all enemies caught in its area. Nightmare is a Chaos damage-over-time effect that continuously drains enemy health over its duration. The DOT damage scales with Lacrimosa's ATK stat. Multiple applications of Nightmare from repeated skill uses can overlap, increasing the damage pressure on enemies.
Lacrimosa fully manifests her Esper Constructs into a large-scale Chaos formation. The ultimate creates a massive area of Nightmare-inflicting darkness that deals sustained Chaos damage and applies heavy DOT to all enemies within. The visual effect is dramatic, with dark energy constructs forming geometric patterns that pulse with damage.
Outside of combat, Lacrimosa can transform into a bat and fly through the environment. This traversal ability allows her to reach areas that ground-based characters cannot access, skip over obstacles, and move through Hethereau more efficiently. The bat form is an out-of-combat ability only; she cannot use it during active engagements. This makes her a valuable exploration character in addition to her combat role.
As a Chaos element character, Lacrimosa creates reactions with adjacent elements on the Esper Cycle wheel. Her Nightmare DOT is particularly effective in reaction-based team compositions because the continuous Chaos application gives teammates many opportunities to trigger duo reactions against affected enemies. The DOT maintains the Chaos status even after Lacrimosa swaps out, enabling off-field elemental contribution.
Lacrimosa is a member of ETD-4, serving alongside captain Baicang, Fadia, and Skia. The team operates under the Bureau of Anomaly Control and was dispatched to the Hypervortex disaster in New Helios. During that response, Lacrimosa's disengaged behavior was noted, though whether this reflects laziness or a deeper disconnect from Bureau objectives is unclear.
The name "Lacrimosa" is Latin for "weeping" or "tearful," originating from the Lacrimosa dies illa section of the Requiem Mass. This somber name contrasts with her drowsy, low-energy personality. Her vampire nature and ability to transform into a bat suggest she is not a standard human Esper but something different — possibly an Anomaly entity that has integrated into human society, similar to the ambiguity surrounding Fadia's nature.
