Overview
Vehicles are a core traversal and gameplay system in Neverness to Everness. The city of Hethereau is built around drivable streets, highways, and urban circuits, and players can own, customize, and drive a variety of vehicle types. The driving experience supports both third-person and first-person cockpit view modes, and vehicle mechanics interact with the game's weather, damage, and crime systems.
Vehicle Types
Type | Characteristics |
|---|---|
Muscle Cars | Heavy, powerful vehicles with high top speed but wider turning radius. Strong in straight-line racing. |
Supercars | High-performance sports cars with excellent speed and handling balance. Premium vehicles. |
Sport Bikes (Motorcycles) | Nimble two-wheeled vehicles with fast acceleration and tight handling. More vulnerable to collisions. |

Driving Modes
Players can switch between third-person view (external camera following the vehicle) and first-person cockpit view (interior camera showing the dashboard and steering). Both modes are available for all vehicle types. The first-person view provides a more immersive driving experience with detailed vehicle interiors.
Customization
Vehicles can be customized with a range of visual and performance modifications.
Visual parts: bumpers, spoilers, tires, suspension adjustments, body color, and decals.
Performance tuning: adjustments that affect handling characteristics and top speed. Tuning choices create trade-offs between acceleration, cornering, and stability.
Color and decals: full color palette and decal application for personalizing the vehicle's appearance.
Damage System
Vehicles in NTE feature realistic damage systems. Collisions and impacts cause visible damage to the vehicle body. Tires are destructible and can be blown out, affecting handling. Glass windows and windshields can shatter from impacts. Vehicles can also experience knockback from high-speed collisions, affecting both the player's vehicle and NPC vehicles.
Weather-Affected Handling
The game's dynamic weather system directly affects vehicle handling. Rain changes road surface conditions, altering traction and drifting behavior. Wet roads make cornering more challenging and drifting easier to initiate but harder to control. Players need to adapt their driving style to current weather conditions, adding a layer of skill to vehicle traversal.

Traffic AI
Hethereau's streets are populated with NPC-driven vehicles that follow realistic traffic patterns. NPC drivers obey traffic signals, follow lane discipline, and react to the player's driving. Aggressive driving near NPC vehicles causes them to honk, swerve, or attempt evasive maneuvers. This reactive traffic system makes the city feel alive and creates emergent gameplay moments during high-speed chases.
Acquiring Vehicles
Players can obtain vehicles through multiple methods. Vehicle dealerships located throughout the city sell cars and motorcycles for in-game currency. Players can also steal vehicles directly from the streets by approaching a parked or stopped vehicle and commandeering it. However, vehicle theft is an illegal act that increases the player's wanted level, potentially triggering police pursuits.
Racing
Racing events are available as a side activity throughout the city. These events pit the player against AI opponents or other players on designated city circuits. Performance tuning choices directly affect racing competitiveness, encouraging players to optimize their vehicles for specific race types.
