Beyond its core combat system and story content, Neverness to Everness offers a wide variety of side activities and mini-games scattered throughout Hethereau. These activities provide Fons (the city's primary currency), unique rewards, City Tycoon progression experience, and a welcome break from anomaly hunting. Fishing
Fishing is one of the most developed side activities in NTE. Players can fish at various spots throughout Hethereau, with each location offering different fish species. The fishing mechanic involves casting a line, waiting for a bite, and then completing a timing mini-game to reel in the catch. Different rod types and bait affect which fish you can catch and the success rate.
Fish can be sold directly for Fons at vendors, used as ingredients in other systems, or kept as collection items. Rare fish species provide higher sell prices and may be required for specific side quests. Fishing is a reliable Fons earner that can be done while watching videos or chatting with friends, making it popular among casual players.
Mahjong
Mahjong in NTE is a full implementation of the tile-based game, not a simplified or watered-down version. Players can compete against NPC opponents for rewards or challenge other players in multiplayer matches. The game follows standard mahjong rules with a complete scoring system.
Mahjong tables are found in specific social areas within Hethereau. Side activities that earn Fons are gated by a weekly City Stamina system. Each activity that generates Fons consumes a portion of your City Stamina pool. When City Stamina is depleted, Fons gains from activities are significantly reduced until the pool resets at the start of the next week.
This system prevents unlimited Fons farming and encourages players to spread their activity time across the week rather than grinding everything in a single session. Planning which activities to prioritize based on their Fons efficiency relative to City Stamina cost is part of the resource management meta.
