Overview
KongMu Gear is the secondary equipment system in Neverness to Everness. It works alongside Arcs to form a character's complete stat profile. The distinguishing feature is its placement mechanic: gear pieces come in different shapes that must be fit into a grid, similar to Tetris.
Gear composition
Each character equips 6 KongMu Gear pieces total: 2 disks and 4 drive blocks. Disks and drive blocks have different roles in the stat system. Drive blocks have fixed main attributes that cannot be changed, while sub-stats are randomized. Before enhancing a piece, players can preview what sub-stats it will roll, removing some of the blind RNG from the upgrade process.

Placement mechanic
Each character has a KongMu gear grid. Gear pieces come in various Tetris-like shapes (L-blocks, T-blocks, squares, straight pieces, etc.). Players fit pieces into the grid to fill as much space as possible. Pieces cannot overlap, and the grid has a fixed size. The challenge is finding the optimal arrangement to maximize stat coverage.
Rotating and positioning pieces to fill the grid completely is the puzzle element. An incomplete grid means unused stat potential. This makes KongMu Gear management feel like a spatial puzzle rather than a simple equipment swap.
Stat enhancement
Each gear piece provides stat bonuses. The stats scale with the piece's quality and level. Common stats include ATK, HP, DEF, and element-specific damage bonuses. Some gear pieces provide set bonuses when multiple pieces of the same type are placed in the grid.
Building a character
A complete character build in NTE involves two systems: an Arc for the primary weapon/ability slot, and KongMu Gear for secondary stat enhancement. The Arc defines the character's bonus ability and primary scaling, while KongMu Gear rounds out their stats.
For example, a DPS character might equip an ATK-focused Arc and then fill their KongMu grid with Critical Rate and Critical Damage pieces. A tank might pair a DEF Arc with HP and shield-strength gear. The two systems complement each other without overlapping.
Acquisition
KongMu Gear drops from gameplay activities including dungeons, bosses, and exploration. Higher-difficulty content drops higher-quality pieces with better stats and rarer shapes. Unlike Arcs, KongMu Gear is not available through the gacha system.
