This is a guide to the best team compositions in LumenTale: Memories of Trey. The recommendations below cover the early game before the route split, then separate line-ups for the early stretches of the northern and southern routes. They reflect early-game performance and may change as more of the game is explored. For the standalone rankings these picks draw from, see the Best Animon Tier List and Best Starter.
For the early game, a strong core is Ozelash, Mollupom, Owaxle, and Toxigall, rounded out with supports or any Animon that has a type advantage against your next opponent.

Ozelash is the best starter, since the early areas have few Electric Animon and its evolution has a quirk that makes certain Animon weak to Electric moves. Mollupom, Owaxle, and Toxigall are all obtainable before the Pymant boss battle. Mollupom has great coverage with Geo and Water attacks against many early bosses, and learns Seismic Step, which can damage three enemy Animon at once. Owaxle's Mental Strike likewise hits up to three Animon at once, and it covers Anomalous, Fire, and Virus moves. Toxigall is a good alternative for Demon coverage.
On the early north route, add Doryogun, Birchette, and Rainagon to the core of Ozelash, Mollupom, and Owaxle.
Role | |
|---|---|
Fast Rock and Fire damage | |
Aura coverage | |
Ancient coverage |
Doryogun is easily obtained from the abundant Melotica (Northern) in the north. It has good speed for the damage it deals, so it adds reliable Rock and Fire pressure even where Mollupom and Owaxle already cover. Birchette and Rainagon are evolved forms you can catch before reaching Voltar City; both are fast and strong, and they add Aura and Ancient coverage respectively.
The south has many Grass, Geo, and Water Animon, so bring Animon that counter and resist those types: Cadedro, Sapsy, and Fulgaze.
Role | |
|---|---|
Fire damage against southern Animon | |
Support, debuffs and buffs | |
Chakra and Virus coverage |
Fulgaze, an evolved form of Deniuli, can be caught early in the Scarlet Wood cave, and its Fire moves are often effective against southern Animon. It is preferable to Boobat, which is weak to Geo moves. Cadedro shows up before the first city, Mirasilva, and is an excellent support that resists both Water and Grass, debuffing enemies with Congestion and buffing allies with Pat. Sapsy is commonly found, and its Chakra/Virus typing gives it plenty of attacks against the area's Animon.
The line-ups above are built for the story, where you pick your fights and can retreat to heal. Competitive play changes the constraints. Online battles are fought 4v4, so the four creatures you bring are the whole roster for that match and each of them has to earn its place.
The Online mode splits into quick matches, meant for testing a team out, and ranked matches that count toward the global rankings. Tournaments run alongside both, hosted either by the game itself or by other players, and the two formats differ in more than size.
Tournament Format | Player Cap | Spectator Mode |
|---|---|---|
Point Tournament | Unlimited players | Not available |
Bracket Tournament | Up to 32 players | Available, so battles can be watched live as they happen |
Turn order is not fixed. Each action inside a Turn Cycle spends a slot on a skill, a switch, an item, an escape attempt in wild encounters, or a pass that regains some SP, and once every action in the cycle has been taken the cycle rebuilds itself from current speed values. Two consequences follow for team building: speed decides sequencing rather than just acting as a tiebreaker, and passing a turn is a real play when the team's SP pool is the thing holding you back.
Support picks matter more here than in the story for the same reason. Birchette and Lopyuna both carry a Director skill that raises the team's SP pool for three rounds, which converts directly into more high-cost skills in a short match. Dedicated healers like Therapix and Florenco buy the turns those skills need.
The last piece is scouting. Because every species has its own weakness chart rather than sharing one with its element, an opponent's type tells you very little on its own. Coverage across four or five types is the hedge, which is why the picks that rank highest on the Best Animon Tier List are the ones that carry it.
Ranked and tournament play need an internet connection throughout. On Nintendo Switch they also need a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Crossplay has not been confirmed, so a team built to beat what you see on one platform may be facing a different field than a player on another. See Multiplayer Features for the full online suite.
