11Overview2233Walls, windows, and doors are the core structural elements of every building in Build Mode (press I). Walls define room boundaries and support upper floors. Windows let in light and contribute to a building's exterior style. Doors provide entry points and control access between rooms and the outdoors. The v0.5.0 update (December 2025) made significant changes to these elements: wall, room, and platform placement costs were removed entirely, door and window prices were reduced and standardized, a new Modular Window category was added with freely rescalable options, and 173 new build items were introduced.4455Walls6677Drawing Walls8899To draw a wall, open Build Mode, navigate to the Structure tab, and select Walls. Click on the lot to place a starting point, then drag to draw the wall segment. Walls snap to the grid by default; hold Alt for free placement. Connect wall segments to form enclosed rooms. When all wall lines connect into a closed shape, the enclosed area becomes a room and the floor surface turns blue, indicating it is recognized by the game.101011+1112Wall Heights12131314Three standard wall heights are available. Select the height before drawing walls; different rooms on the same floor can use different heights.14151516HeightDescriptionUse Cases3mStandard height for most single-story rooms. Taller walls accommodate larger windows, including floor-to-ceiling options.17181819Wall Customization19202021Every wall surface can be painted and textured independently. The interior and exterior sides of the same wall can have completely different finishes.21222223Click the interior side of a wall to customize interior wallpaper, paint, or material.Click the exterior side to customize the outer facade.Use the paint icon to open the Customize Paint menu with options for color, material, texture, and effects.23242425Available Wall Materials25262627MaterialDescriptionPaintSolid colors in any shade. Further texture additions arrived with v0.5.0's 14 new building materials.28292930Wall Limitations30313132No curved walls: Walls can only be drawn as straight segments. Curved wall support is in experimental development for a future update. No individual segment deletion: You cannot delete a single wall segment from the middle of a longer wall. The entire wall section must be removed and redrawn.Connection issues: Walls do not always automatically connect to adjacent walls. Manual stretching to close gaps can cause texture clipping at joints.Height alignment: When rooms of different wall heights share a wall, alignment at the junction can be visually imperfect.32333334Windows34353536Placing Windows36373738Windows are placed from the Structure tab under the Windows category. Select a window style and click on a wall to place it. The window automatically cuts an opening in the wall. Windows snap to the wall grid; use Alt for precise positioning. Multiple windows can be placed on the same wall with spacing between them.38393940Window Categories40414142Windows come in several style categories:42434344CategoryDescriptionStandard windowsRectangular windows in small, medium, and large sizes. The workhorse option for most rooms.Floor-to-ceiling windowsFull-height glass panels that span the entire wall height. Best with 4.8m or 5.7m walls for maximum impact.Arched windowsWindows with curved tops. Add architectural character to traditional and Mediterranean-style buildings.Circular/Round windowsDecorative accent windows. Often used in gable ends, bathrooms, or as design features.Modular windows (v0.5.0)Freely rescalable window panels that can be sized to any dimensions. The most flexible option for custom designs.4445The v0.1.3 update added 16 new window styles in various sizes. The v0.5.0 update introduced the Modular Window category as a major addition.45464647Modular Windows47484849Modular windows, added in v0.5.0, are a special window type that can be freely rescaled to any size. Unlike standard windows, which come in fixed dimensions, modular windows let you drag the edges to create custom-width and custom-height windows that fit any wall configuration.49505051Found in the Structure tab under Building > Home > Modular Windows.Place on any wall, then use the resize handles to adjust width and height.Useful for creating window walls, oversized picture windows, and non-standard openings.Modular windows accept the same Customize Paint treatment as standard windows for frame color and glass tint.51525253Window Customization53545455Selected windows can be customized through the paint menu:55565657Frame color: Change the color and material of the window frame (white, black, wood, metal, etc.).Glass tint: Adjust the transparency or color of the glass pane.Style details: Some windows have configurable elements like mullion patterns, sill styles, and trim profiles.57585859Doors59606061Placing Doors61626263Doors are placed from the Structure tab under the Doors category. Click on a wall to place a door; the game automatically creates an opening. Only one door can occupy a given wall section. Doors can be placed on both interior and exterior walls.63646465Door Types65666667TypeDescriptionEntry doorsSolid or paneled front doors for the main entrance. Further door additions arrived with v0.5.0.68696970Door Permissions70717172Doors have a permission system that controls which Zois can use them. The head of household sets the permission level:72737374PermissionWho Can EnterEveryoneAny Zoi, including townies and visitors.Known People OnlyZois who appear in the household's Relationships tab.Family OnlyOnly members of the household.7475In the current build, NPC Zois sometimes ignore door permission settings. This is a known bug. Setting doors to Family Only does not reliably prevent townies from entering.75767677Door Customization77787879Doors can be repainted through the Customize Paint system. Options include changing the door material (wood, metal, glass), color, and handle style. Some door types have additional configurable elements like window inserts and decorative panels.79808081Cost Changes (v0.5.0)81828283The v0.5.0 update significantly changed building costs:83848485ComponentBefore v0.5.0After v0.5.0WallsCost Meow based on lengthFreeRooms (preset shapes)Cost Meow based on sizeFreePlatformsCost Meow based on sizeFreeRoofsCost Meow based on areaFreeHandrailsCost MeowFreeDoorsVariable pricingReduced and standardizedWindowsVariable pricingReduced and standardizedStairsVariable pricingReduced and standardized8586These changes make structural building significantly cheaper, allowing players to focus on design rather than budget constraints during the early stages of house construction. Clicking a wall with this tool active highlights the entire room boundary, showing yellow markers at corners. Click markers near the bottom of a wall to create a floor; click markers near the top to create a ceiling. The Room Selection tool is also used for raising foundations and adjusting room height.93949495Tips95969697Use 3m walls for standard rooms and reserve 4.8m or 5.7m walls for feature rooms like living areas or entryways. Mixing heights on the same floor adds visual interest.Paint interior and exterior wall surfaces separately. A brick exterior with a painted interior is a common, realistic combination.Modular windows (v0.5.0) are the most flexible window type. Use them when standard window sizes do not fit your design.Place doors before raising foundations to avoid the door disappearance bug on elevated platforms.Use Alt when placing windows near the edge of a wall or close to another window. Grid snapping can prevent tight window groupings.Wall, room, platform, and roof placement are all free since v0.5.0. Experiment with layouts without worrying about structural costs; only furniture and decorative items spend Meow. For open-plan designs, use open archways instead of doors to maintain visual flow between rooms while still defining separate spaces.
