Major expansion covering all nine regions, geography, lore origins, and playable area details
Primaera is the main continent and open-world setting of Honor of Kings: World. Spanning approximately 64 square kilometers of playable terrain, Primaera is a vast and diverse landmass shaped by ancient civilizations, mythological forces, and the mysterious energy known as the Flow. The continent is home to nine major regions, each with distinct geography, culture, history, and gameplay challenges. From the bustling capital of Chang'an in the Central Plains to the snow-swept wilderness of the Northlands, Primaera offers a wide variety of environments for exploration, combat, and discovery.
The 64 square kilometer playable area at launch is centered on the Kingdom of Chang'an and its surrounding territories, representing a portion of the broader continental map. TiMi Studio Group has indicated that the playable area will expand through post-launch updates, gradually opening new regions and content zones.
According to the world's creation mythology, Primaera's history begins with the arrival of the Ark, an enormous vessel that descended from the sky and made landfall in what is now called the First Lands. The Ark carried the ancestors of Primaera's civilizations, and its landing site became the birthplace of organized society on the continent. The Sky Dome, a vast atmospheric phenomenon that hangs over the Misty Marshes, is believed to be connected to the Ark's arrival. The Flow, the fundamental energy that permeates all living things on Primaera, circulates within and beneath the Sky Dome, nourishing the land and its inhabitants.
Over millennia, civilizations spread outward from the First Lands, establishing distinct cultures, kingdoms, and traditions in each of the nine regions. Wars, natural disasters, and the shifting influence of the Flow have shaped the political landscape into its current state, where ancient rivalries, fragile alliances, and unresolved mysteries define the relationships between regions.
Primaera is divided into nine major regions, each offering unique environments, storylines, and gameplay content. The regions vary dramatically in climate, terrain, and cultural identity.
The Central Plains form the heartland of Primaera and serve as the political and economic center of the continent. The capital city of Chang'an is located here, along with fertile agricultural lands, busy trade routes, and well-maintained roads connecting the region to its neighbors. The Central Plains represent the most densely populated and developed area on the map, with numerous towns, villages, and points of interest. For players, this region serves as the primary hub from which all other areas are accessed.
The Alsahraa is a vast desert region that was once the center of east-west cultural exchange on Primaera. Ancient trade routes crossed its dunes, connecting distant civilizations and facilitating the spread of ideas, goods, and techniques. The desert's oases served as meeting points for merchants, scholars, and travelers. Alsahraa is the birthplace of Li Bai, the legendary swordsman and poet whose dual nature as both warrior and artist reflects the region's cultural duality. Today, the desert holds buried ruins, lost caravans, and remnants of its once-thriving trade network, making it a rich area for exploration and treasure hunting.
The Northlands are a snow-swept wilderness stretching across Primaera's northern frontier. Harsh winters, towering glaciers, and frozen rivers define the landscape. The region is home to the Chonokh tribes, nomadic peoples who have adapted to the extreme conditions through generations of survival knowledge and a deep connection to the natural world. The Chonokh are skilled hunters and riders, and their culture emphasizes strength, endurance, and communal bonds. The Northlands contain some of the most challenging open-world enemies in the game, with blizzards and sub-zero temperatures adding environmental hazards to combat encounters.
The First Lands are the original landing site of the Ark and the birthplace of civilization on Primaera. This region carries immense historical and spiritual significance, as it is where the earliest settlements were established and where the first communities learned to harness the Flow. However, the First Lands are now plagued by frequent earthquakes and geological instability, suggesting that the land itself has been destabilized by ancient forces. Ruins of the earliest civilizations dot the landscape, and archaeological discoveries in the region drive several major storylines.
The Riverlands are a lush, verdant region defined by interconnected river systems, lakes, and wetlands. The area is considered the cradle of many hero origins, with numerous legendary figures tracing their roots to Riverlands communities. The region's natural beauty and cultural richness make it a hub for festivals, artistic traditions, and scholarly pursuits. It is in the Riverlands that Donghuang performed the Spell of Reincarnation, a pivotal event in Primaera's history that altered the cycle of life and death across the continent. The Riverlands offer a mix of peaceful exploration and intense combat, with serene riverside paths giving way to dangerous monster-infested marshes.
The Zhulu Plateau occupies the northeast of Primaera and is characterized by dense pine forests, rocky mountain terrain, and a relatively isolated population. The plateau is home to Jixia Academy, the prestigious institution founded by the Three Sages, and the abandoned ancient capital of Chaoge. The region serves as the starting area for new players, with a progression curve that gradually introduces combat, exploration, and story mechanics before guiding players toward the wider world.
The Three Kingdoms region is a territory divided among three rival states: Wei, Shu, and Wu. Based on the historical Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history, this area is defined by ongoing political tension, military conflicts, and shifting alliances. Each kingdom controls a distinct portion of the region, with fortified borders, military encampments, and contested zones between them. Players encounter faction-based content in this region, including allegiance quests, battlefield events, and diplomatic storylines that allow them to influence the balance of power.
The Tonpuu Shore, also known as Kyokutou, is a serene coastal region on the eastern edge of Primaera. Its landscape blends sandy beaches, bamboo groves, and terraced hillsides. The region draws cultural inspiration from Japanese aesthetics, with architecture, clothing, and traditions that reflect a distinct island-influenced identity. Tonpuu Shore is the home of Musashi, the wandering swordsman whose pursuit of martial perfection has made him a legend. The region offers a more contemplative pace of exploration, with hidden shrines, fishing villages, and oceanside caves to discover.
The Misty Marshes are a fog-shrouded wetland region dominated by the presence of Donghuang's influence. It is in this region that the Heavenly Tree sprouted, a colossal arboreal structure that connects the earth to the Sky Dome above. The Sky Dome itself descended over the Misty Marshes, creating a permanent atmospheric anomaly that saturates the region with concentrated Flow energy. The marshes are treacherous to navigate, with shifting terrain, visibility-reducing fog, and powerful creatures drawn to the region's intense Flow concentration. The Misty Marshes contain some of the game's most challenging endgame content.
Primaera's open world is designed to reward curiosity. Over 200 points of interest are scattered across the playable area, ranging from discoverable treasure caches and environmental puzzles to hidden boss encounters and lore-rich ruins. The world features dynamic weather, a full day-night cycle, and seasonal variations that affect NPC behavior, enemy spawns, and available resources. Verticality plays a significant role in exploration, with cliff faces, mountain peaks, underground caves, and elevated structures providing multiple layers of navigable space.
Fast travel waypoints are located in major settlements and at key landmarks throughout each region. Players can also traverse the world on foot, by mount, or through specialized mechanical transportation systems in certain areas. The design philosophy prioritizes organic discovery over waypoint-to-waypoint travel, with the world's visual design using natural landmarks, lighting cues, and environmental storytelling to guide players toward interesting locations without relying heavily on minimap markers.
