Overview

Guan Yu is a warrior-class hero in Honor of Kings: World. Based on the legendary general from the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history, Guan Yu wields his iconic guandao (a long-handled blade) and is accompanied by Red Hare, reimagined in the game as a mechanical automaton horse. He serves as a frontline fighter specializing in wide sweeping attacks that control space and punish grouped enemies.

Historical inspiration

The historical Guan Yu (died 220 CE) was a military general serving under the warlord Liu Bei during the late Eastern Han dynasty and Three Kingdoms period. Deified as the God of War in Chinese folk religion, Guan Yu is one of the most recognized figures in Chinese culture. His signature weapon, the Green Dragon Crescent Blade (a type of guandao), and his red horse Red Hare are inseparable from his legend.

In Honor of Kings: World, these elements are adapted through the game's unique lens. The guandao retains its historical design principles but is enhanced with Flow energy. Red Hare becomes a steam-and-Flow-powered automaton, blending the mythic imagery with the game's technology-infused setting.

Combat abilities

Guan Yu's Flow style revolves around his guandao's reach and sweeping coverage. His attacks control large areas in front of him, making him effective at managing groups of enemies and maintaining spacing in boss encounters.

Red Hare automaton

Red Hare functions as both a combat ability and a traversal tool. Outside of battle, Guan Yu can ride Red Hare across the open world. In combat, Red Hare charges appear as special abilities that deal heavy damage along a line. The automaton's mechanical design features brass plating, glowing Flow conduits, and articulated joints that give it a distinct visual identity.

Role in the story

In Primaera's lore, Guan Yu is a revered warrior whose legacy is preserved through the Flow style system. The Flowborn can channel his fighting techniques, effectively inheriting his martial prowess. His story within the game explores themes of loyalty and honor that mirror his historical reputation.
