Initial town restoration article (2026-04-22)
Town restoration is Graveyard Keeper 2's explicit rebuild-the-settlement loop. The massive town that the graveyard serves has been overrun by the undead, and pulling it back into a functional shape is a long-running player project rather than a set piece.
Players help individual townsfolk rebuild their homes and businesses.
Completing quests for the residents earns revenue, which feeds back into automation, combat gear, and further restoration.
The ruined city is a persistent presence; its visible state changes over time as the player progresses.
Town restoration is the part of Graveyard Keeper 2 that turns the zombie apocalypse from a horror premise into a management opportunity. Every ruined building is a lead on a quest, every quest is a revenue stream, and the better the town does, the more it supports the player's wider operation.
