The Technology Tree is the research and unlock screen in Graveyard Keeper 2, reached from the second tab of the in-game menu. It gates blueprints, recipes, buildings and graveyard modules behind nodes that the player buys with three separate pools of coloured points. Lazy Bear Games has confirmed that the tree carries over from the first game as the backbone of progression, and that a new talent system now sits alongside it.
Confirmed Shape
The developers describe the sequel as keeping the familiar progression through the Technology Tree while adding a talent layer designed to make the grind more enjoyable, and they have said outright that there will be less grinding this time than in the original. Everything below about the tree's on-screen layout comes from the official store screenshots rather than from a written breakdown, so treat node costs and exact ordering as provisional until launch.
Element | What is confirmed |
|---|---|
Location | Second tab of the menu bar, between Character and Inspirations. See User Interface |
Categories | Four category tabs across the top of the tree panel |
Currency | Three separate point pools, colour coded red, green and blue |
Unlock marker | A completed node carries a green tick on its card |
Grants | Node cards show the items and blueprints they unlock as icon tiles |
Talents | A separate new talent system, announced but not yet shown |
The Four Categories
The tree panel carries four category tabs. Only the first is legible in current material.
Tab | Icon | Status |
|---|---|---|
Building | An open book over a carpentry tool | Open in the published screenshot, with eleven nodes readable |
Second category | A red tablet or scroll icon | Named contents not disclosed |
Third category | A green leaf | Named contents not disclosed |
Fourth category | A blue skull | Named contents not disclosed |
The three coloured skull and leaf icons on the tabs match the three coloured point counters shown on the heads-up display, which suggests each branch leans on a different pool. That reading is inference from the icon set rather than a stated rule, so it is not recorded here as confirmed.
Building Nodes
Eleven Building nodes are readable in the published tech tree screenshot. They are listed here with the connections the on-screen lines draw between them. The capture is taken from a save where the whole visible branch is already completed, so it shows an early spread rather than a full tree.
Node | Grants | Feeds into |
|---|---|---|
The Concept of Wood | Planks, logs and a workbench blueprint | Woodworking I, Chopping |
Woodworking I | Processed timber and a bench blueprint | Simple Weapons, Simple Barricades |
Chopping | Firewood and split logs | Timber processing |
The Concept of Stone | Stone blocks and a blueprint | Stone Polishing, Pottery I, Brick Making |
Simple Weapons | An early spear and an early blade | Arming troops, see Combat |
Simple Barricades | Three barricade variants | Perimeter defence |
Tool Rack | A workshop tool fixture | Oiled wood |
Oiled wood | Treated timber | Higher tier construction |
Stone Polishing | Polished stone | Refined masonry |
Pottery I | Clay vessels and a kiln blueprint | Ceramics |
Brick Making | Fired brick and a kiln blueprint | Masonry, see Buildings and Construction |
The point counters visible on that screen read 115 red, 113 green and 100 blue, which gives a sense of the scale the pools run at rather than any individual node price. No node in the published material displays its cost.
Graveyard Modules
The June 2026 developer log tied the tree directly to the graveyard. Progressing through the Technology Tree unlocks special graveyard modules that the player places on the plot, and each module provides space for a different class of object. The developers named tombs, benches, columbaries, monuments and graves. The same log confirmed a wider catalogue of new grave designs and decorations for styling the cemetery.
Talents
A talent system is confirmed as new for the sequel and separate from the tree. The studio frames it as a way of softening the grind rather than replacing the Technology Tree, and has not shown the screen, named a single talent, or explained how talent points are earned. Anything beyond that framing is unconfirmed.
