Initial Old Camp faction article (2026-04-22)
The Old Camp is the oldest and largest of the three camps in the Valley of Mines. It was built inside the ruins of an ancient fortress in the centre of the valley and controls the largest active ore mine.
The camp is ruled by Gomez, who took power by leading a revolt against the royal guards who used to run the colony. Under Gomez the camp is divided into three castes:
Ore Barons. Senior lieutenants who run individual mines and estates and answer directly to Gomez.
Templars. The camp's armed enforcers, loyal to the Fire Circle and to Gomez.
Guards and Shadows. Regular fighters and scouts. Shadows specialise in reconnaissance beyond the camp walls.
The Fire Mages live within the Old Camp's castle and provide magical support to Gomez's regime. Their leader is Corristo, and Milten is the youngest of their number.
The Old Camp's economy is built on sending magical ore out through the Barrier to agents of King Rhobar II in exchange for wine, food, and other luxuries. Controlling this trade is the source of Gomez's political power.
The Hero joins the Old Camp during Chapter 1 by completing the admission quest for Thorus, the commander at the camp's gate. Joining the Old Camp opens the path to the Fire Circle and to full Templar or Guard status later in the campaign.
