Magic in Gothic 1 Remake is cast from scrolls or runes and drains mana with every use. Scrolls are single-use and can be read by almost anyone, while runes are permanent and reusable but require you to learn the matching Circle of Magic from a mage faction. Runes are reusable and cost mana per cast; scrolls are consumed after one use.
