Initial Kai Rosenkranz article (2026-04-22)
Kai Rosenkranz is the Audio Director and Composer of Gothic 1 Remake. He is one of the original Piranha Bytes team members who joined Alkimia Interactive for the remake, bringing direct continuity from the music he wrote for the 2001 game.
Rosenkranz scored the entire original Gothic trilogy (Gothic, Gothic II, Gothic 3) for Piranha Bytes, along with the first Risen. His work is widely considered one of the most recognisable aspects of the series, and is one of the reasons the remake's pre-release communication has leaned so heavily on the soundtrack.
For the remake, Rosenkranz is reinterpreting his original soundtrack and adding new compositions. THQ Nordic released a first slice of the remake's OST publicly before launch, with Rosenkranz's reworked themes alongside new material written specifically for the expanded world. FMOD is used as the runtime audio middleware for the music implementation.
Rosenkranz's soundtrack is one of the items included in the Collector's Edition. PC digital pre-orders also receive the soundtrack as a pre-order bonus, which is a nod to how central the music is to Gothic's identity.
