The blade is watched over by Rue, an enchanted ribbon guardian charged with keeping it from falling into the wrong hands. Upon arriving in the Everywhen, Faye must earn Rue's trust before she can use the sword, which they wield together to escape imprisonment. Rue's ribbons remain bound to the weapon, and the reveal hints that the sword is more than Faye first realizes.
In her hands the blade anchors a fast, aerial combat style and works alongside her the Golden Hand power.
