Created page with confirmed E-Day detail on Mags Carter: role, cast, background in Kalona and the settled spelling of her name
Mags Carter is one of two new playable characters introduced in Gears of War: E-Day, alongside Lucas Reyes. She is voiced by Elizabeth Ludlow.
Field | Detail |
|---|---|
Role | Playable member of Bravo Squad |
Voice | Elizabeth Ludlow |
Background | Former Gear and Pendulum Wars veteran |
Home | From Kalona, the city the whole game takes place in |
Occupation at the start | Working at the city's Imulsion Refinery |
Story framing | A back seat character, per the studio's own description of the squad |
Mags is the member of the squad with the most combat behind her. She served through the Pendulum Wars, left the military and went home to work at the refinery that keeps her city running. When the road opens on Emergence Day she is a civilian again, in plain clothes like the rest of the four, and she turns and runs toward the thing everyone else is running from. The studio describes her as returning to a brotherhood she already had rather than discovering one.
Her home city matters to the story. The campaign is built so that Kalona feels like a character being destroyed rather than a backdrop, and Mags is the squad member who grew up in it.
Her name is Mags, not Megs. Both spellings circulate because a transcript of spoken developer commentary rendered it phonetically as Megs. The written material uses Mags consistently, and so does the beta reward item Blast Damage Mags.
The two new characters were not written as alternate versions of the returning leads. The framing the team uses is that Marcus and Dom sit in the front seat and Mags and Lucas sit in the back: different roles in the story, all of them necessary, with each new character given their own history rather than a share of someone else's. The stated goal was that both had to be as compelling as the established pair immediately.
The full campaign is playable as any squad member from the start, so Mags is a first-class option rather than a co-op filler slot. Player counts are on Co-Op and Split-Screen.
The Blast Damage Mags Epic Character Skin was one of the Open Beta rewards, unlocked by reaching Player Level 20 during the beta and carried into player inventories at launch.
