Sinza

Created page with confirmed family, the unrecognized divine mark, and the inherited trident's published data
Sinza was a fisherman who lived on the coast of Dagda and raised his daughter Esmeralda in a village there. He is dead before Fortune's Weave opens. Two things he left behind still drive her part of the story: a spear, and a divine mark the local temple would not accept.

Japanese name | シンザ (Shinza) |
Gender | Male |
Occupation | Fisherman |
Home | A fishing village on the coast of Dagda |
Family | Esmeralda (daughter) |
Status | Deceased before the story opens |
Role | Backstory character, not announced as playable |
Sinza bore a divine mark, a Sign of God, that the temple serving his village did not recognize as belonging to any of the Dagdan gods. Esmeralda inherited the same mark. Neither of them was accepted for it, and the two were treated as outcasts by the other villagers.
After his death the hostility went further. Esmeralda was about to be handed over as a sacrifice to a sea creature over that unrecognized mark, and Dietrich pulled her out of it, which is how she ends up traveling with him. The rejection of Sinza's mark is therefore the reason his daughter is on the road at all.
Previews use the word Diadem for an individual mark of this kind. What one does in play has not been published for this game, so the family's mark is a story point rather than a known mechanic.
The spear Esmeralda fights with is her father's. Its in-game description calls it the lost trident of Esmeralda's father, and preview material also refers to it as a harpoon, which matches the way she throws it. The same mark the family bore is engraved into the shaft. It grants the Brute Throw Combat Art.

Type | Spear |
Rank | E |
Range | 1 to 2 |
Durability | 30 uses |
Combat Art granted | Brute Throw |
Wielder | Esmeralda, by inheritance |
Because Combat Arts are the only thing in this game that spends weapon durability, those 30 uses are a budget for Brute Throw rather than a cap on how often the trident can be swung. Ordinary attacks do not wear it down at all. The figures above come from pre-release listings and have not been repeated in an official announcement.
No class, no voice credit and no on-screen appearance has been published for Sinza. Whether he turns up in a flashback, what killed him, and why the temple rejected the mark he carried are all unanswered.
