33 Check enemies carrying the item-bag icon to see which ones hold shards. At the Temple of Smyrnos, shards can improve eligible Combat Arts by changing accuracy, critical chance or durability cost. 7+Dietrich unlocks the scan with world-map Free Time in Part I Chapter 4. Repeated scans shrink its circular range until the command becomes unavailable. 9+Revealed enemies remain for two turns. Check the bag icon for shard carriers, then decide whether the party can clear them before they disappear. The shard rewards belong to these scanned encounters, rather than every random skirmish.
