Corrected the page: no staff weapon family exists and magic is cast without an implement; replaced the invented mechanics with how casting actually works
1-Staves are the Druid's primary spell-focus weapon. They channel ranged elemental magic and appear in pre-release trailer footage in the hands of the spell-focused archetype, which has no officially published name. Staves are not melee-strong on their own; their power lives in the spells they direct. A pure caster build runs a staff on slot 1 and a melee weapon on slot 2 for emergency self-defense.1+Fatekeeper has no staff or wand weapon family. Magic is not channelled through a dedicated spell-focus weapon, and no staff item exists in the Early Access build. This page exists because the assumption is a common one coming from other RPGs.223-Behavior3+How Casting Actually Works445+The Druid casts from spell schools directly. Magic is a property of the character and the Skill Tree, not of an equipped implement, so a caster build does not give up a weapon slot to cast. That is the key difference from the staff-and-robe pattern most fantasy RPGs use.566-Spell focus. Boost spell damage, cast speed, or projectile count, depending on the staff.Two-handed. Channels with both hands. No off-hand action.Reach. Effective range is the spell's range, not the staff's haft.7+No weapon requirement. Fire, ice, wind and force spells are cast whatever is equipped. See Magic. Both weapon sets stay melee. The two-set loadout is a melee convenience, not a melee-versus-magic split. A caster commonly runs a fast weapon on one set and something heavier on the other.Spell power comes from the tree. Cast speed, projectile count and spell alteration are skill-tree investments, not weapon stats. See Spell Alteration.788-Build Roles9+What a Caster Build Uses Instead91010-Pyromancer. Cast-speed staff for multi-projectile fire pressure.Wind channeller. Channel wind magic through a staff for ranged crowd control.Hybrid. Staff on slot 2 for ranged answers, melee on slot 1 for close work.11+A spell-leaning Druid still carries melee weapons, because there is nothing else to carry. The practical pattern is a light, fast weapon for self-defence when something closes the distance, with the damage coming from spells and consumables.111212-Limits13+See Build Guide: Pyromancer for a worked caster example, and Builds for the wider set.131414-Staves are weak in pure melee. A staff Druid needs spells equipped and skill points spent in spell schools to be effective. Pure staff builds also need a defensive answer for fast-closing enemies, usually telekinesis or a slot-2 melee.15+Where the Confusion Comes From16+17+Unofficial fan databases that appeared after launch invent weapon and class names that have never existed in the game, including a set of fabricated caster archetypes. Those names circulate in search results but trace to no official source. The official weapon nouns are swords, axes, hatchets, daggers, clubs, maces, hammers, rings, relics and a torch.18+19+See Weapons for the current roster and Roadmap for announced additions.
