Psychometry is the protagonist's supernatural ability and the single mechanic that the rest of Eternal Anima hangs from. It feeds exploration, it feeds the growth system, and it feeds combat. Official English material uses the word Psychometry; the Japanese term is 読思術 and the Chinese terms are 讀思術 and 读思术. The romanization dokushijutsu is ours, not official.
Where It Sits
Official copy places the ability in Wade's right side, with a small wording difference between language versions. The Japanese site writes 主人公の右腕の異能, the supernatural power of the protagonist's right arm, while the Traditional Chinese site writes 主角右手的異能, the protagonist's right hand. English copy specifies neither. The discrepancy is unresolved as of September 2026, so this wiki records both rather than silently choosing one.
Story-wise, the ability is what breaks Wade out of his old life. Awakening it made him doubt the false paradise the Almighty built in Urvis Ael, which set the events of Story in motion.
Anima
What Psychometry reads is Anima, described in official copy as the source of all things (万物の源であるアニマ, 萬物之源「靈漪」). The Japanese writes it in katakana as アニマ; Traditional Chinese uses 靈漪 and Simplified Chinese 灵漪, and a plain romanization of the Chinese would be lingyi, which again is ours rather than official.
The term is load-bearing enough that it is built into the product name in Chinese-speaking regions, where the game ships as 《ETERNAL ANIMA 永恆的靈漪》 and 《ETERNAL ANIMA 永恒的灵漪》. English-language material has no rendering of 靈漪 other than the word Anima itself, so that is the term this wiki uses throughout.
Language | Ability | Substance |
|---|---|---|
English (official) | Psychometry | Anima |
Japanese | 読思術 | アニマ |
Traditional Chinese | 讀思術 | 靈漪 |
Simplified Chinese | 读思术 | 灵漪 |
Reading an Object
The published description of what the ability actually does is consistent across every official surface. Objects hold the memories and thoughts of the people who owned them. Reading those memories yields the knowledge of that era, and lets Wade inherit the Classes and Skills of the past heroes who held the object. Western publisher copy renders the same idea as deciphering abilities by drawing on the power within artifacts.
Two consequences follow, and the official site splits them into two of the game's three pillars.
Knowledge. Reading an object teaches Wade about the era it came from. In a story about a history that has been lost, this is how the player learns that history, and the objects carrying it are described as scattered throughout the world.
Power. Reading an object also hands over its former owner's Class and Skills, which go into the build the player assembles. Classes and Skills covers that side.
In Battle
The same ability is the in-world justification for the combat system. Japanese and Chinese copy frame it as reading the enemy's killing intent (敵の殺意, 察覺敵人的殺意) so that the result of their next action becomes visible before it happens. That framing does not appear in any English source, which describes the mechanic in purely functional terms. See Future Sight for what the player does with the information and Battle System for the surrounding combat.
What Is Not Known
As of 15 September 2026 no official source has explained where the ability came from, why Wade has it, whether anyone else in the world has it, whether it can be upgraded, or whether using it costs anything. The connection between the ability and Wade's missing three years of memory is likewise unstated. Anything on those points would be invention, so this wiki leaves them open.
One related in-world material has been named: アニマイト, a substance described in pre-order bonus text as required to manufacture equipment, written 靈晶 in Chinese. The English form Animite is our transliteration and no official English name exists. Whether it is the same Anima that Psychometry reads, or something refined from it, has not been stated.
