Weapons in Ember and Blade are built around the game's signature blend of sword and magic. Fenrix fights with both melee strikes and ranged attacks, chaining them into combos that suit either thinning out a horde or dueling a single powerful demon. On top of the base toolkit, weapons can be deepened through the Runes system, which adds another layer to how a build develops over a run. For how these tools play in motion, see Combat.
Sword and Magic
The core of the arsenal is the pairing of sword and magic. The blade handles close-quarters work, while magic extends Fenrix's reach and gives him answers at range. Because the two are designed to flow together rather than be used in isolation, the most effective play comes from weaving melee and spellcasting into combined sword-and-magic combos.
Melee and Ranged Options
Fast-paced melee and ranged attacks give players flexibility against very different threats. Against the swarm, ranged options help control space and pick off enemies before they close; against a boss, melee pressure and well-timed magic combine to punish openings. This dual approach is what lets a single character handle both the horde-clearing and the patterned Judicators of Fate duels.
The Gauntlet
The studio introduced a new weapon, the Gauntlet, as part of the Act 3 reveal in late 2025. Coverage of that reveal presented it as a fresh addition to the game's combat options, expanding beyond the established sword-and-magic toolkit. Because it was shown as part of a pre-release reveal rather than confirmed in a final build, its exact role and moveset should be treated as provisional. More on the surrounding content is on the Acts page.
Enhancing Weapons With Runes
Weapons are not fixed in power. The Runes system, added in a demo update, lets players enhance their weapons, tuning and strengthening them as part of the broader progression. Combined with Awakening Skills and other systems, runes give weapon builds room to grow and specialize across runs, so the same base weapon can perform very differently depending on how it has been augmented. The way all of these pieces stack together is covered under Progression and Builds.
