Progression and Leveling

Updated internal link states after new pages were added (2026-09-12)
Progression in Dimraeth runs on four separate tracks: character level, attributes bought with XP, the skill tree belonging to your archetype, and proficiencies for gathering and crafting work. Only the first is automatic. The rest are spends and choices.
Item | Detail |
|---|---|
Level cap at Early Access | 25 |
How it changes | The developers state the cap will be increased with each new act |
Portability | Your hero’s level travels with the character between worlds, along with equipment, inventory, spells and personal progression. See Co-op Multiplayer. |
The cap of 25 applies to the Early Access build arriving on 15 September 2026. As of 2026-09-12 no first-party source states the level caps used in the demo or in the playtest builds, only that they were not the same.
Attributes are not handed out at level up. They are raised by spending XP, and the XP cost of each attribute is set by your race and class pairing. A Fairy Magician pays much more to raise Strength than a Minotaur Brawler does. That makes attribute spending a genuine decision rather than a formality: pouring XP into an attribute your archetype is bad at leaves you with fewer total attribute points when you reach the cap.
Attributes also gate content rather than only scaling it. Spells carry attribute requirements, and the universal magic granted by crafted spellbooks is gated behind those requirements, so raising an attribute can open access to spells you could not otherwise equip. See Spells and Magic.
Each archetype carries a passive tied to one attribute. The published example is the Minotaur Brawler, the Vanguard archetype, which gains bonus stamina whenever Strength is levelled. That ties the attribute you would raise anyway to a reward specific to the pairing, and it is another reason the race and class combination matters more here than a class alone would.
As of 2026-09-12 no first-party source lists the full attribute set. Strength is named in current design material. A Memory attribute appears in a May 2023 patch note, where the number of locations a Magician could bookmark for teleporting scaled with it, but that line is three years old and nothing since confirms Memory is still an attribute.
Every archetype has its own skill tree, carrying spells and passives that no other archetype can use. This is why the developers count the race and class grid as at least 48 archetypes rather than as a handful of classes: the tree belongs to the pairing, not to the class.
A skill tree overhaul is listed among the changes arriving with Early Access. The tree has been rebuilt several times before that: a new skill tree design in December 2023, character skill line trees in December 2024, a skill tree implementation in February 2025, and the overhaul at Early Access. Interface work for skill points appears in January 2025 notes.
Respec exists and is recorded in patch notes. As of 2026-09-12 no first-party source gives its cost, its currency or any limit on how often it can be used.
Proficiencies are a separate levelling track for non-combat skills. They were created in October 2023 and described then as letting the player level up skills such as woodcutting, mining and cooking. Mining and woodcutting were completed in March 2024 and a gathering system followed in December 2024, with harvestables including iron and several varieties of log and rock. Proficiency cursor icons and interface icons appear across the 2024 notes.
As of 2026-09-12 no first-party source lists the full set of proficiencies, the level cap on any of them, or what levelling one awards. What they feed is clearer: gathered materials are the input for Crafting and Farming.
A Spell Mastery system was added in March 2024: using a spell more often can increase its power or ability, and spells display a Mastery Level. As with every patch-note line from that period, this establishes that the system existed in the 2024 builds. No current material restates it, so its presence in the Early Access build is unconfirmed as of 2026-09-12.
XP is shared with all players in the area, a rule recorded in July 2023, and monsters scale with the number of players nearby rather than with everyone on the server. An August 2023 note gave parties of up to six players a maximum +50% XP bonus. The party cap is now 1 to 8 and that bonus figure has not been restated at the new cap, so as of 2026-09-12 the current group XP bonus, if there is one, is unknown.
Several record-keeping systems appear in 2024 patch notes: a Lifetime Stats class viewable by friends, a Profile Page renamed from the earlier Stats Page, and an Emblem system intended to give an automated showcase of a player’s strengths. These are dated patch-note entries rather than described features, and none of them has been restated in current material. More of the record is in Development History.
