Who Pulls the Strings follows Crake's rescue in What Moves the Dead. Silas's Book in Aurelius's tower contains the hex needed against Greifberg's gargoyles.
Starting the quest
Detail | Requirement |
|---|---|
Start | Complete What Moves the Dead; Crake provides the tower location. |
Location | Aurelius's Tower in The Silts |
Availability | Day or night |
Time cost | 5 segments: 3 searching and 2 reporting back |
Completion | 1000 XP and Life Lock |
Searching the tower
Defeat the Unblinking Guardian outside the tower. Climb the exterior to the second-floor window and enter there. Continue upstairs through the guards until you encounter Svetlana, the Dark Prodigy.
Defeat Svetlana and inspect Silas's Book on the table. This grants the Life Lock Witchcraft ability. It is a quest unlock, so a build recommending the hex still requires this step first.
Returning to Crake
Bring the book to Crake at the Manumit Hideout. Explain the gargoyle hex and ask about the preparations for the attack on Greifberg Castle to finish the quest.
Afterward, asking what else he wanted to discuss opens Distant Shadows, the optional continuation of his personal and romance route. The castle preparation and the personal conversation are separate follow-ups.
