Voracious Bite
September 23, 2026 at 07:30 AM
Hedged the reported Corruption threshold for the Vampirism ultimates and replaced a note about this page's own edit history with a plain statement
Voracious Bite is Coen's feeding attack in The Blood of Dawnwalker. He closes on an enemy, bites, and drains their blood, which restores his own health. It belongs to the vampiric powers that open at sunset, and it is the reason night combat rewards pressure rather than patience.
Property | Detail |
|---|---|
Tree | Vampirism. It is not a hex, and it has nothing to do with the witchcraft side of the skill trees. |
Availability | Night only, in vampire form. The ability is gone during the day along with the rest of the night toolkit. |
Effect | Drains the target's blood and restores Coen's health. |
Secondary effect | Feeding also counts against blood craving, so it doubles as hunger management. |
Outcome | Feeding can be partial, leaving the target unconscious, or total, killing them. |
Confirmation | First party. Named directly in post launch patch notes. |
Voracious Bite is one of the few ability names in the game confirmed by the developers in writing rather than by coverage. A September 2026 hotfix, logged on Update History, records a fix for an issue that blocked tutorial progress when Voracious Bite was used a bit too fast. That single line confirms the spelling of the name, that the ability is a Vampirism tool rather than a hex, and that it is taught during the tutorial rather than unlocked deep in a tree.
During the day Coen fights with a sword under the rules of directional combat, and healing means consumables and careful blocking. At night his claws come out and Voracious Bite becomes a healing option attached to an attack, which changes the maths of a fight: staying on the offensive is how health comes back, so backing off to recover is usually the worse play. Combat covers the wider night moveset, including the repositioning tools that set a bite up.
The same ability is the most reliable way to keep the hunger meter in check while fighting, which matters because letting the craving run high risks Coen losing control in the next conversation and draining someone who was supposed to be an ally. That risk is the connective tissue between this ability and the quest system.

Voracious Bite sits on the Vampirism side of progression, which deepens through corruption rather than through perk points alone. Guides to the shipped game treat upgrading the bite as essential, since later levels add buffs on top of its damage and healing, and the Vampirism perk Nourishing Blood raises the health restored by drinking blood. The tree's Ultimate Perks depend on Corruption rather than on a point total, with one guide placing the deeper nodes at around Corruption 15, and one of them, Sanguine Renewal, is reported to reset ability cooldowns when the bite is used to feed. See Skill Trees and Ultimate Perks.
No published source gives numeric values for the ability: no healing figure, no cooldown, no charge cost. The activation charge economy governs the ability bar generally, and a database of the game's own ability data lists Voracious Bite as costing charges and running on a cooldown, although no guide to the shipped game has confirmed the figures.
Ability | What It Does | Status |

Shadowstep | Short range teleport for closing gaps or escaping encirclement. | Confirmed |
Planeshift | Walks flat walls and ceilings once Coen Shadowsteps onto them, opening vertical routes at night. | Confirmed |

Shapeshift | Wolf form for covering long distances outside combat. See Wolf Transformation. | Confirmed |
Piercing Shriek | A night side ability reported to unlock through the Our Rotten Roots quest. | Reported |

The wider night kit, including the abilities absorbed from defeated vrakhir officers, is covered on Vampire Combat and Night Abilities.
There is no bat or swarm form in the base game as of September 2026.
No healing value, cooldown, range or charge cost has been published.
The exact changes each upgrade level makes to the bite have not been published.
Whether feeding on specific enemy types gives different results is unstated outside the named officer blood abilities.
