The cathedral in Svartrau is one of the most important locations in the game, both as a story setting and as a level shown during public demos. Chronicler Albertus Taurinus described it as embodying "the wrath God displayed towards sinners", it is grand but foreboding, a building designed to inspire fear as much as faith.
The cathedral is a large medieval religious structure near the Silberkreis district, the wealthiest quarter of the city and the one closest to the castle at Greifberg. Its exterior is imposing. The interior contains frescos on the walls, some of which hold hidden clues relevant to quests. Beneath the main floor, extensive crypts and catacombs extend underground. These hidden areas are a separate explorable space with their own encounters and secrets.

The cathedral's crypt holds the tomb of Saint Mihai, the patron saint of the cathedral. According to official history, Mihai was a pagan knight who died fighting a monster and was canonized afterward. The truth is that Mihai was buried alive and is still down there, having survived for centuries in the sealed tomb. Coverage of the game widely explains that survival by calling him a Dawnwalker, but no studio material states it and the chronicle calls him only a saint, so the Dawnwalker reading is the common account rather than a confirmed one.

The Gamescom 2025 hands-off demo played the same quest twice (once during the day and once at night) to demonstrate the dual gameplay system, and both versions were set in and around the cathedral.

The daytime version involved investigation. Coen spoke with NPCs and used the Compel Soul hex to interrogate a corpse (identified by moths gathering above it), following leads to different locations and encounters.
The nighttime version was a stealth infiltration of the underground catacombs using Vampiric Powers. Coen encountered a murohni called "The Almshouse Monstrosity" and fought the saint entombed beneath the cathedral as the boss.
Before the Vrakhiri takeover, Skender Dragosti ordered his personal confessor Father Florin to lead day-and-night vigils in the cathedral when news of the plague first reached the valley. The prayers did not work. The plague arrived anyway, and Skender eventually fell to the vampires he was hoping God would protect him from.
Father Florin is not only a figure from the cathedral's past. Community Bulletin Board #8, published on June 1, 2026, confirms him as a present-day presence in Vale Sangora and one of the people Coen can come to know. In his diary he keeps track of the people around him, their habits, their fears, and the subtle changes in their behavior as the valley heads toward what the developers call a new dawn. The bulletin frames him as a relationship Coen can develop: through Father Florin's understanding, the connection can grow into something more.
The cathedral is not a single room but a complex, and several separate threads run through it. An almshouse attached to the grounds is where a freed prisoner can be sent to shelter, and it can be found later with its occupants still there. It is also where a murohn can be fought, and whether Coen killed it is one of the things the valley notices: the proclamations posted in Laslea at the end of the game address it directly alongside who rules the valley and whether the church came back.
Father Florin keeps a hideout inside the cathedral in the shipped build, and finding it opens the questline that leads to a daylight entrance into Greifberg Castle. A separate quest chain running through the cathedral ends in a fight against an undead ghoul and yields the Broken Sword of Saint Mihai, the first piece of the valley's legendary blade.
The building's fate is one of the things the endings settle. Where Brencis falls and Christianity returns to the valley, the cathedral is restored. Where he keeps power, it stays his. These outcomes come from a single ending guide and are recorded as reported.
