Added the May 2026 Cathedral demo herb-shack sequence and the role Anca plays in the prologue
Anca is a village healer in Vale Sangora who becomes one of the people Coen comes to rely on as he pursues his family and confronts Brencis. She is described as mysterious and resourceful, with a working knowledge of herbs and magic that proves valuable to Coen over time. Anca also keeps her own secrets, and the writers have framed her as more than just a village healer.
Within the community of Vale Sangora, Anca holds the role of a healer, the kind of figure villagers turn to for treatment of wounds and illness. Her craft draws on practical herbalism, but the developers have indicated that her abilities reach beyond ordinary remedies and into magic. That dual reputation, a respected village healer with concealed depths, sets her apart from the other folk Coen knows in the valley and gives her a quieter relationship to the supernatural than the overt vampire lineage Coen carries or the hex magic practiced elsewhere in the world.
She fits the broader theme the writers have placed across The Blood of Dawnwalker: characters whose motives are not easily sorted into good or evil. Anca helps Coen, but she withholds parts of who she is and what she knows, leaving room for that to matter later in his story.
The May 2026 hands-off demo press cycle featured Anca in the Cathedral prologue segment. The setup is straightforward: Coen's mother Esme is gravely ill, and Coen visits Anca's herb shack to collect an elixir that will strengthen her body and mind.
The visit does not go to plan. A storm rolls in. A tree comes down across the shack's roof, smashing through the structure while Anca is still inside. In the chaos, Anca slips and cuts her hand. Coen has a choice: salvage the herbs first and let her bleed, or stop to tend her wound first and risk losing the elixir.
If the player chooses to help her first, an interactive scene plays out in which Coen dresses the wound while the two talk. The exchange is described by the developers as small-talk laced with a few flirtatious lines and a shirt removed for bandaging purposes; nothing more risque than that occurs in the segment itself. It is the first moment in the prologue where the romance system's groundwork is visible, even though Anca has not been officially named as a romance partner.
The same prologue offers other parallel objectives: helping a villager named Gremla, recovering a missing pig, and searching for the brother Lazar. None of the four objectives are mandatory, and the time spent on Anca's wound is time not spent on the others. The Cathedral segment is one of the clearest worked examples of how the game's narrative sandbox and time mechanic intersect.
Anca is part of the small circle around Coen that the developers describe as the backbone of life in Vale Sangora. That circle includes Coen's family alongside neighbors and rebellion figures such as Marat. Where some of those people offer Coen safety or moral grounding, Anca offers expertise: a healer who can prepare the herbs and treatments Coen needs to keep his loved ones alive against the spreading plague and against the toll his Dawnwalker condition takes on him.
Like Lacra and Marat, Anca is positioned in the cast not as a sidekick but as someone with her own arc and her own stakes. The narrative sandbox means that her role in Coen's run depends on choices made within the 30-day cycle: how much time Coen spends in the village, which factions he aligns with, and whether her secrets surface before the coronation.
Anca was teased during the launch year trailer in January 2026 and named on stream during the Road to Launch Event on April 28, 2026. The May 2026 Cathedral demo (shown to press at the studio) was her first major gameplay-context appearance and the one that established the storm sequence and the herb shack as a recurring early-game beat.
