Before the Wings of Iron quest appears in your Journal, you must meet the following conditions:
Complete Chapter 11 and defeat the Golden Star boss to unlock Blackstar as your dragon mount.
Progress Witch side quests involving NPCs such as Elowen and Araciel to unlock the associated Sanctum questline.
Obtain a Kuku Iron Pot from Kilnden Workshop. You should craft at least two pots, since one is consumed during the crafting process.
The quest objective reads "Decipher the records analyzed by the Witches," which can seem vague at first. In practice, it involves a multi-step crafting process followed by a trip to the Abyss.
Travel to Gorthak in northwest Delesyia. Find the NPC Marek at the Zargan Tankworks (west of Gorthak) and collect the ATAG Mech blueprints he offers. Reading the blueprint permanently teaches you the Small Kuku ATAG recipe.
Return to Grimnir's Kuku Shop at Kilnden Workshop in Hernand. Use the following materials to craft the Small Kuku ATAG:
Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
1 | Dispatch Greymane comrades from Howling Hill (talk to Ross); costs 15 armaments, 105 stone, 75 timber, 60 food, and 2,500 money per pot | |
1 | Drops from Abyss-corrupted creatures (camouflaged as bushes, shrubbery, or rocks with glowing Abyss orbs) | |
5 | Drops from mechanical enemies in Delesyia (golems, robot mosquitoes, and similar contraptions) | |
5 | Drops from mechanical enemies in Delesyia |
Important: The Kuku Pot is consumed during crafting. If you have Abyss items stored inside it, move them to a spare pot before proceeding.
With the Small Kuku ATAG in hand, you still need three more components to assemble the Abyssal Fusion:
Material | Quantity | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
1 | Automatically received after defeating the Golden Star boss at the end of Chapter 11 | |
1 | Found at the Serpent Shrine in Dewhaven, southwest Delesyia. Requires Axiom Force to collect; use the grapple ability to seal scales into your Kuku Iron Pot | |
1 | Dropped by Abyss creatures in Pywel, including rock golems and stone crabs |
Once all four components are gathered (Small Kuku ATAG, Golden Star's Component, Aeserion's Scales, and Power Core - Ore of Resipiscence), return to Grimnir's Kuku Shop at Kilnden Workshop. Speak with Grimnir and select the Abyssal Fusion recipe to craft the armor.
After crafting, track the Wings of Iron quest in your Journal and travel to the Nest of Valor. This is a floating Abyss island located above the Dry Valley, the same location visited during the Chapter 9 boss fight against Goyen. Approach the quest marker to trigger a cutscene: the armor mechanism wraps around Blackstar in an elaborate transformation sequence, and Kliff mounts the newly armored dragon.
Blackstar, now clad in the Abyssal Dragon Armor, spreads its giant wings toward the skies. The visual upgrade is permanent and cannot be removed. While the armor increases Blackstar's damage resistance during air combat and liberation missions, it does not improve flight speed, extend flight duration, or reduce the 50-minute cooldown between summons.

|---|---|
Permanent cosmetic and defensive upgrade for Blackstar; increases damage resistance during air combat |
Craft at least two or three Kuku Pots before starting this quest. One pot is consumed during the Small Kuku ATAG crafting step, so you will lose any Abyss items stored inside it.
Cogwheels and Small Batteries both drop from the same mechanical enemies in Delesyia, so you can farm them together in a single trip.
The Serpent Shrine typically yields around 50 Aeserion's Scales per visit, so a single trip should be enough.
Completing faction quests increases your reputation with the local faction, unlocking access to better vendors and rewards.
