Weapon Heat-Treatment Research is a faction quest in Crimson Desert, part of the Gorthak Ironworks Research Institute quest series. It is completed by talking to a research assistant and handing over the required components, after which the unlocks listed below become permanently available for the rest of the playthrough. The research itself takes a full day of in-game research time per stage, with a silver cost paid up front. This quest takes place in the Delesyia region.

Weapon Heat-Treatment Research is offered by the research assistant stationed at the Gorthak Ironworks. The institute sits just above the Zagen Tank Works liberation point in Gorthak, a short walk from the main forge. Rather than a single quest, this research is a node in a larger tech tree that also contains Brimstone Research and machine parts follow-ups, so it is usually tackled in sequence with the rest of the Gorthak unlocks.
Access to the Gorthak Ironworks research assistant opens once the Iron Ogre territory is liberated, which requires completing chapter 10. In practice the Gorthak research becomes available at the tail end of Chapter 10: Counterattack and into the start of Chapter 11: Truth and Reality. Weapon Heat-Treatment Research itself is gated behind the earlier smelting research, so you must unlock that tier first before this node can be purchased.
This research unlocks three dispatch recipes and a cluster of A.T.A.G. arm attachments. The dispatches let you farm the listed weapons through the Greymane Camp automation board, while the A.T.A.G. attachments are swapped onto the ATAG Mech itself. Most importantly, this is the node that finally opens up Vertical Flight for Oongka once the Kuku Rocket Pack has already been crafted.

Weapon Heat-Treatment Research is one of the top-priority research nodes in the entire game because it sits on the path to both the A.T.A.G. Laser and Oongka's Vertical Flight. The Laser is widely considered the strongest weapon the A.T.A.G. can equip, and Vertical Flight fundamentally changes how Oongka traverses the world. If you are planning to use the mech at all, clear this research as soon as you reach the Gorthak assistant.
Craft the Kuku Rocket Pack before completing this research. Vertical Flight will not activate without the pack equipped on Oongka.
Run this node in parallel with Brimstone Research so you can chain straight into Mineral Excavation Efficiency Research for the stacked cannonball supply bonus.
Queue the unlocked dispatches at the Greymane Camp immediately after unlocking them so the weapons are ready when you return.
The A.T.A.G. Laser scales off the ATAG Mech chassis; pair it with one AoE attachment like the Flamespitter for mixed encounters.
