Overview

Scholastone is a skylands research settlement in the Hernand region, perched high above the surrounding landscape at the Scholastone Institute. Because of its elevation and the concentration of scholars working there, Scholastone supports a wider variety of shops than most comparably sized locations. Players visiting during or after Chapter 4: The Price of Knowledge will find four distinct shop types operating within the settlement: a Brewer, a Research Institute shop complex, a Church, and a Contribution Shop.

Together, the four shop types stock more than 70 unique items. Several of these are only available at Scholastone, making the location worth a deliberate visit rather than a passing stop. The Research Institute in particular fields seven separate merchants, giving it the highest merchant density of any single location in the game. The Contribution Shop run by Renn operates on Contribution Points rather than Silver, making it a separate economic layer on top of the standard vendor network.

Scholastone Brewer

The Scholastone Brewer is operated by Grania, a vendor stationed at the brewing facility within the Scholastone settlement. Her shop carries 23 items, combining standard supplies with a strong selection of cooking recipes. Grania is one of the more recipe-focused vendors in the Hernand region, making her a useful stop for players working on food buffs and cooking unlocks.

Her inventory includes several cooking manuals that are not readily available at city provisioners, alongside the standard Small Bag and a region-specific supply contract. The Food Supply Contract - Kharonso (1,040 Silver) is a notable item: supply contracts of this type provide a bulk delivery of ingredients or consumables useful for extended crafting sessions, and the Kharonso contract is tailored to food-focused players working through the Hernand area.

Scholastone Research Institute

The Scholastone Institute operates a shop complex staffed by seven merchants: Grunvar, Ronnard, Lumiel, Valtus, Stonefell, Grandige, and Heinrik. As a group, they carry 37 items, making this the largest vendor cluster at Scholastone and one of the most item-diverse shop locations in the game.

Each merchant within the Research Institute tends to specialize in a different subset of the overall inventory. The most notable item sold here is the Kinetic Circle (11,500 Silver), a rare tool associated with Scholastone's abyss energy research. At 11,500 Silver it is one of the higher-priced individual items sold at any standard vendor, and it is not available from provisioners or general goods merchants elsewhere. The Provisions Supply Contract - Pailune (897 Silver) is another item worth picking up here, offering a bulk supply of goods aligned to the Pailune region, which players begin engaging with in Chapter 7.

The Fishing Rod (15 Silver) is also stocked here, making this a fallback purchase point for players who missed it from a provisioner. The Research Institute merchants share inventory management, so restocking cadences may differ slightly across the seven vendors depending on which one holds each item.

Scholastone Church

The Scholastone Church is tended by Cedric, who operates the smallest shop at Scholastone. The church carries only 2 items: a Small Bag (50 Silver) and Holy Water (300 Silver).

This mirrors the standard inventory carried by church vendors across Pywel. Holy Water is the key ingredient for crafting Platinum, one of the rarest and most valuable crafting materials in the game. Church shops are the only source for Holy Water, which means making a stop at every church you encounter, including Cedric's shop at Scholastone, is a good habit to develop early. Stock purchased from Cedric and church vendors in other regions accumulates toward crafting batches when you are ready.

Scholastone Contribution Shop

The Scholastone Contribution Shop is managed by Renn and carries 8 items. Unlike the other three shop types at Scholastone, Renn's shop does not accept Silver. All purchases here require Contribution Points earned within the relevant region. Items purchased with Contribution Points can be sold back to any contribution vendor for a full refund of the points spent, so there is no risk in experimenting with the inventory.

The 8-item inventory carried by Renn includes exclusive items tied to Scholastone's faction and research theme. Contribution shop inventories are curated per region, meaning items available from Renn will not appear at contribution vendors in Demeniss, Pailune, or the Crimson Desert region. Players investing in the Hernand region's Contribution Points should prioritize identifying which of Renn's items fit their build before spending points at other contribution vendors.

Shopping Tips

Visit Scholastone after Chapter 4. The Scholastone shops, including Grania's expanded recipe inventory, unlock fully after completing the Chapter 4 main quest at the Scholastone Institute. Some vendors may offer limited stock before this point.
Budget for the Kinetic Circle. At 11,500 Silver, the Kinetic Circle from the Research Institute is expensive relative to early-game income. If it is relevant to your build, start saving Silver when you arrive in Hernand rather than waiting until you reach Scholastone.
Stock up on Holy Water from Cedric. Holy Water is used in Platinum crafting and Cedric is a reliable source. Buy the maximum available stock each time you visit Scholastone, since the item only appears at church vendors.
Pick up the Fishing Rod at the Research Institute. At 15 Silver, the Fishing Rod sold by the Research Institute merchants is the same item as the one sold by provisioners. If you arrive at Scholastone without one, grab it here rather than backtracking.
Track your Contribution Points before visiting Renn. Check your current Hernand Contribution Points before deciding what to buy from Renn. Contribution points spent here cannot be recovered through Silver, so matching purchases to your actual needs avoids opportunity costs. Items can be refunded for full points if you change your mind later.
Use supply contracts to batch-prepare for upcoming regions. Both the Food Supply Contract - Kharonso (Grania) and the Provisions Supply Contract - Pailune (Research Institute) provide bulk item deliveries. Purchasing the Pailune contract before heading north in Chapter 7 ensures you arrive in Pailune stocked for the harsh conditions rather than scrambling for supplies on arrival.
