Kuku Insect Gatherer's Pack
April 25, 2026 at 02:36 AM
Added Use for Bird Taming section covering Sigil of Bond bait, small-bird vs predator food categories, and bait pairings

The Kuku Insect Gatherer's Pack is a craftable utility pack in Crimson Desert that belongs to the backpack branch of the Kuku Pot crafting tree. When equipped and activated, it sweeps every insect in a large radius around the player and deposits the haul straight into the inventory, turning tedious one-by-one bug pickups into a single button press. The pack is most commonly used alongside the Kuku Gardening Pack to mass-harvest crafting materials, particularly Palmar Beetles for Enhanced Palmar Pill production.

The blueprint for the Kuku Insect Gatherer's Pack is unlocked by cleansing the Sanctum of Oblation, one of the four sanctums tied to the Witch of Humility faction questline. Because the blueprint is gated behind her questline, you must first meet Lyselia before the sanctum becomes objective-marked on your map.
Lyselia hides in her mortal form as a person hanging off a broken bridge southeast of Beighen, a small settlement below Pailune City. Pull her up, then travel to her true home in a hidden cave within the mountainous Serpent Marsh, west of Delesyia. Speaking with her there starts the Witch of Humility questline and marks the four sanctums you need to cleanse.
Three of Lyselia's four sanctums are clustered on the east side of Delesyia: the Sanctum of Veneration (which unlocks the Kuku Gardening Pack and Kuku Laser Spear recipes), the Sanctum of Faith (Kuku Transmission 999K Pack), and the Sanctum of Oblation itself on the Crowtalon Isles in the far southeast. The fourth sanctum, Devotion, sits to the southwest near Dewhaven and is not related to this pack.
At the Sanctum of Oblation you will clear the local Antumbra fiends, collect the two Reactor Cores, and plug them back into the reactor with Axiom Force and Force Palm to cleanse it. Once the reactor is restored, return to Lyselia to claim the recipe. Do not fast travel away immediately. Use Blinding Flash on the front panel of the reactor and complete the rhythm-style Focus Light puzzle so that a unique Sanctum Core dispenses from the top. That core is a required ingredient for several of the best Kuku Pot recipes and is unique to this sanctum, so miss-and-skip is not recommended.
Crafting takes place at Grimnir's Kuku Pot station at the Kilnden Workshop once the blueprint is in your inventory. Like most items in the backpack branch, the pack uses a Kuku Pack as its structural base. The Kuku Pack itself is crafted from a basic Kuku Pot plus a Peddler's Pack, which is most easily obtained by stealing one from the Totesmith Tannery south of Howling Hills while wearing a mask to avoid a bounty.
Beyond the Kuku Pack base, Kuku Pot recipes in this family typically pull from the same short shopping list of abyss drops: Power Cores (dropped by Abyssal enemies, with trios reliably spawning near the Trader's Expanse), Abyss Cells (farmable in bulk from drake-type and crab-type abyss enemies, or grown from Abyssal Seeds at the Howling Hill Camp farm), and the Sanctum Core tied to the blueprint's source sanctum. Always check the crafting menu at the Kilnden Workshop for the exact quantities your copy of the game lists, because the numbers can vary slightly by patch.
Component | Notes |
|---|---|
Base structural item, crafted from a Kuku Pot plus a Peddler's Pack. | |
Power Core, Ore of Resipiscence | Dropped by Abyss enemies. Farm the trio spawn near the Trader's Expanse for a reliable source. |
Harvest from abyss enemies, or plant Abyssal Seeds at the Howling Hill Camp farm for repeatable harvests. | |
Sanctum Core (from Sanctum of Oblation) | Awarded from the Focus Light rhythm puzzle after cleansing the reactor. Unique to this sanctum and not easily re-farmable. |
The transcripted guide for Kuku Pot crafting does not list exact numeric quantities for the Insect Gathering Pack's recipe, so consult Grimnir's in-game menu for the authoritative ingredient counts at your current patch.
Equip the Kuku Insect Gatherer's Pack as a Tools item, then activate it the same way as any other Kuku backpack: press the left and right triggers together. The input is shared with the master dodge circle, so if you run the dodge circle you will want to unequip it first to avoid input conflicts. On activation the pack pulls every nearby insect, including Palmar Beetles, directly into your inventory in a single pulse.
The effective radius is noticeably wide, which makes the pack ideal for clearing dense insect-spawn areas in one pass rather than chasing individual bugs through grass and brush. Gather bonuses from your equipped gear still apply, so stacking gathering percentages before a run multiplies an already large haul.
The strongest reason to craft this pack is to harvest Palmar Beetles, which are the insect half of the Enhanced Palmar Pill recipe. Without the pack, the beetles are picked up one by one from scattered ground spawns, which is slow and easy to miss entries. With the pack, a single activation in a beetle-dense area empties the whole field into your bag.
The Insect Gathering Pack is most powerful when paired with the Kuku Gardening Pack. The Gardening Pack sweeps every nearby plant and the Insect Gathering Pack sweeps every nearby insect, so running both back-to-back in the same location clears every gatherable object in range. The combination is especially potent for two material chains:
Palmar Leaves plus Palmar Beetles for crafting a steady supply of Enhanced Palmar Pill.
Rubber from Rubber Trees, which is notoriously fiddly to harvest by hand but trivial to scoop up with the combined packs.
Cleanse the Sanctum of Oblation and complete its Focus Light puzzle in one visit. The unique Sanctum Core is required for the recipe and may not reset, so do not fast travel away until you have picked it up and sealed it in your Kuku Pot.
Craft the Kuku Gardening Pack in the same session if you can. The two packs share most of their material pool and overlap heavily in use-cases, so building both at once is efficient.
Stock extra Peddler's Packs before visiting Grimnir. The tannery stealing trick at Totesmith can only be repeated on a respawn timer, and almost every backpack branch recipe needs a Peddler's Pack for its Kuku Pack base.
Unequip the master dodge circle before activating any Kuku pack. The left-plus-right-trigger activation is shared between the two systems, and leaving the circle equipped can cancel the pack's sweep.
Time the gather with a mask or from stealth when farming beetles near NPCs or private property. Some Palmar spawns count as theft when triggered by the pack, the same way the Gardening Pack does at Porun's Palmar tree.
Kuku Pot - Overview of the Kuku crafting tree.
Kuku Pack - Structural base used by most backpack-branch recipes.
Kuku Gardening Pack - Plant-focused counterpart, best used in tandem with this pack.
Sanctum of Oblation - Location that unlocks this blueprint.
The Witch of Humility - Faction questline that gates access to the sanctum.
Enhanced Palmar Pill - Primary consumable that Palmar Beetles feed into.
The Kuku Insect Gatherer's Pack sits at the top of a three-step chain that begins with raw ore and timber and ends at Grimnir's workbench. The chain is easier to track as a single sequence before gathering materials, so you know exactly what each intermediate item is going to feed into.
Step | Item Crafted | Ingredients |
|---|---|---|
1 | ||
2 | 1 Kuku Pot + 1 Peddler's Pack | |
3 | Kuku Insect Gatherer's Pack | 1 Kuku Pack + 1 Power Core - Ore of Resipiscence + 1 Power Core - Crown of Shadows + 3 Abyss Cells |
Every step happens at the Calden workshop with the dwarf NPC Grimly Agrodol Pal (the in-game steward of the Kuku recipe line). Iron Ore and Timber are trivial to stock from nodes and trees all over Pywel, or bought from smithy vendors if you are in a hurry.
The second blueprint, the one that specifically unlocks the Insect Gatherer variant, is gated behind a second witch and a second sanctum. The order matters because the base Kuku Pack blueprint must exist in your inventory before Grimly will even show the Insect Gatherer slot.
Progress the campaign to Chapter 5 so that the Witch of Wisdom questline unlocks. Meeting her is the gate for the first sanctum.
Cleanse the Sanctum of Penitence. Defeat every enemy inside, then find the missing piece of the fourth pillar and slot it into place. After the cutscene, the witch hands over the Kuku Pack blueprint.
Unlock the Witch of Eliza Leah. Travel to the bridge north of Demeniss (past the marked fast travel point) and help the stranger on the bridge. The stranger vanishes, and the witch marker appears south of Demeniss near Serpent Marsh. From the fast travel point, drop down into the cave below rather than climbing up.
Cleanse the Sanctum of Oblation. Clear all enemies, then recover the missing cube and the fourth-pillar piece. Once both are slotted and the cutscene plays, the witch hands over the Insect Gatherer blueprint.
Return to Grimly Agrodol Pal at the Calden workshop. With both blueprints and the full material list, craft Kuku Pot, then Kuku Pack, then the Insect Gatherer's Pack in that order.
All the abyssal ingredients for the final craft come from a short list of farm locations. Save before you start in case the respawn logic glitches out.
Ingredient | Best Farm | Enemy Type |
|---|---|---|
Rock worm trio spawn (fast travel point resets them) | Bush enemies and Onyx-style rock worm enemies | |
Same rock worm trio spawn as Ore of Resipiscence | Bush enemies and Onyx-style rock worm enemies | |
~40 abyssal floor enemies inside the passage behind the fast travel wall |
At the rock worm trio, kill all three, seal their cores, then fast travel away and back to respawn them. A 20-minute loop is usually enough to cover both named cores plus a few spares.
At Drake's Fall Castle, fast travel in, jump the wall immediately behind you, run through the doorway passage, and group the floor enemies together. Always leave one small group alive before fast travelling out, otherwise the despawn logic can reset the farm into a broken state (see the Drake's Fall Castle article for the full despawn-glitch rules).
Beyond its obvious role as a Palmar Beetle harvester, the Kuku Insect Gatherer's Pack is the most efficient way to stockpile bugs for the Sigil of Bond, the bird-feeder item used to tame birds. With a single button press the pack catches every bug in the surrounding area and drops them straight into your inventory, which is dramatically faster than chasing and catching insects one at a time by hand. A single sweep through a bug-dense zone is usually enough to refill a Sigil several times over, so one short farming detour before heading to a cliff placement covers most of a farming session's bait needs. For the full taming workflow, including how to unlock the Sigil of Bond and the daily feed cap that governs trust gain, see the Pet Taming Guide.
Bugs are the preferred food category for several small bird species that are tamed through the Sigil of Bond, including pigeons, sparrows, parrots, and geese. When a small bird lands on a Sigil loaded with bugs, feeding it gives a moderate amount of trust per feed, similar in value to Barley but variable by bug type. Because the daily feed cap is the main limiter for trust gain, the practical advantage of bugs is less about a per-feed peak and more about filling the Sigil quickly so a feeder placed along a flight path never runs empty between landings.
The pack's role changes when the target is a predator bird rather than a small one. The Eagle, along with hawks, owls, falcons, and to a lesser extent the Crow, prefers meat. Bugs have minimal effect on the trust bar for those species, so Lean Meat is the far stronger stock choice when farming a cliff known for predator birds. A useful middle path is to stock a Sigil with a mixed load of meat and bugs whenever the placement sits on a flight path shared by both predator and small birds, because the same feeder can then catch whichever species lands first without wasting time on the wrong bait category.
Recommended bait pairings by bird category:
Small birds (pigeons, sparrows, parrots, geese, and similar): stock the Sigil of Bond with bugs from the Kuku Insect Gatherer's Pack, or with grain such as barley. Bugs and grain both fall under the small-bird food category, so mixing them keeps the feeder stocked during longer sessions.
Predator birds (eagles, hawks, owls, falcons): use lean meat as the primary bait. Bird Meat and fish work as secondary options when a feeder placement overlaps with cat or dog pet-hunting routes, but bugs are not a productive choice for this group.
Mixed placements: load the feeder with a combination of bugs, grain, and lean meat when camping a cliff that attracts both small and predator birds. The Sigil will feed whichever species lands, and the unused bait is not lost, so a mixed load is often worth carrying on long sessions.
The same per-pet trust cap applies whether a bird is fed bugs or meat. Running the Insect Gatherer's Pack in a known bug-dense area, filling the Sigil to the brim, and then placing the feeder on a high cliff along an active flight path is the standard loop for small bird tames. See Companion Trust for how the per-interaction daily cap works, the Companions hub for related pet systems, and the Companion Affection Guide for how affection interacts with trust once the bird has been tamed. Abyss gear that boosts trust per interaction applies to bugs-fed feeds the same way it applies to any other food, so stacking companionship cores speeds up a small-bird tame without changing the bait category.
