Initial version (2026-03-24)
Keeping Balance on the Wind is a Training Challenge in Crimson Desert. The objective is to walk 10 meters along a rope or any surface that triggers the balancing animation. Despite the name suggesting a tightrope, the challenge can be completed on rooftop ridges, narrow ledges, and certain fences, making it one of the more straightforward Challenges in the game. Completing it rewards the player with the Composure I Abyss Core and a Faded Abyss Artifact.
Detail | Info |
|---|---|
Challenge Type | Training |
Region | |
Artifact Location | Stone memorial on the main road of Nas Riverside, near Unicorn Cliff |
Objective | Walk 10 meters on a rope or balancing surface |
Rewards | Composure I (Abyss Core), Faded Abyss Artifact |
Difficulty | Easy |
Before you can attempt Keeping Balance on the Wind, you need to pick up its Sealed Abyss Artifact. The artifact is located in the Hernand region, sitting on a stone memorial along the main road of Nas Riverside. It is positioned slightly west of the Unicorn Cliff text on the map. The memorial is right on the roadside, so it is hard to miss if you are traveling along the main path through the area.
Once you pick up the Sealed Abyss Artifact, the challenge becomes active in your challenge log. You do not need to complete it at any particular location; any valid balancing surface anywhere in the world will work.
The objective text reads "Walk 10m on a rope," but the challenge is more flexible than it sounds. Any surface that forces your character into a balancing animation counts toward the 10-meter requirement. This includes actual ropes, rooftop ridges, narrow stone ledges, fallen tree trunks, and certain wooden fences.
Find a suitable surface. Look for a long, continuous balancing surface that covers at least 10 meters. Rooftop ridges on the larger manor buildings throughout Hernand are the easiest option. The rooftops at Lioncrest Manor work particularly well because they are long and straight.
Climb to the ridge. Scale the building by using the climbing mechanics. Once you reach the top, position yourself on the very peak of the roof where the two sloping sides meet. Your character should enter the balancing stance automatically.
Walk forward slowly. Move in one direction along the ridge. Use small, gentle stick inputs (or keyboard taps) rather than pushing all the way forward. Aggressive inputs cause your character to wobble and eventually fall.
Keep the camera aligned. Point the camera in the same direction you are walking. This makes it easier to judge your forward movement and reduces accidental diagonal inputs.
Continue until the challenge completes. Once you have covered 10 meters of forward distance, the challenge notification will appear on screen.
Any surface in the world that triggers the balancing animation counts toward the 10-meter requirement. Here are the most reliable options:
Surface Type | Notes |
|---|---|
Rooftop ridges | The best option. Manor and church rooftops in Hernand are long enough to complete the challenge in a single walk. |
Ropes | Horizontal ropes strung between buildings in cities work, but many are shorter than 10 meters. You may need to find a particularly long one. |
Stone ledges | Narrow ledges on castle walls and ruins can trigger the balancing animation. Make sure the ledge is long enough. |
Wooden fences | Some narrow fence tops trigger the balance mechanic. Test by climbing on top and checking if the animation activates. |
Fallen tree trunks | Occasionally found in forested areas. Only works if the trunk is narrow enough to trigger balancing. |
The easiest place to complete this challenge is at Lioncrest Manor in the Hernand region. The manor buildings have long, straight rooftop ridges that extend well beyond 10 meters. Climb to the top of one of the larger buildings, position yourself on the ridge, and walk in one direction until the challenge completes.
Other players have reported success using the rooftops of sheds and houses scattered throughout the Hernand countryside. Any building with a peaked roof will work as long as the ridge is long enough. If the first rooftop you try is too short, move to a larger building nearby.
Completing Keeping Balance on the Wind grants the following rewards:
Reward | Description |
|---|---|
Composure I | An Abyss Core that grants +0.1 Spirit per second when equipped in a gear socket. Useful for builds that rely on Spirit regeneration. |
A consumable used to reset skill tree selections, allowing you to reallocate your Abyss Core investments. |
The Composure I Abyss Core must be manually equipped from your inventory after the challenge is completed. It does not activate automatically. Open your inventory, find the Composure I core, and slot it into an available gear socket to begin receiving the Spirit regeneration bonus.
Do not overcorrect. The most common reason for falling is pushing the stick too hard in the opposite direction when your character starts to lean. Use very small adjustments.
Walk, do not run. Rushing forward increases instability. A slow, steady pace is far more reliable than trying to sprint across.
10 meters in one direction. The distance must be covered going forward. Walking back and forth on a short surface does not count. If you turn around and walk back, the counter resets.
Jumping between surfaces does not count. Moving from one ledge or rooftop to another appears to reset the distance counter. Complete the full 10 meters on a single continuous surface.
Use longer surfaces than needed. Pick a surface noticeably longer than 10 meters so you have margin for error. If you wobble or slow down, you still have distance left to make it.
Activate the reward manually. After completing the challenge, remember to equip the Composure I Abyss Core from your inventory. Many players forget this step and miss out on the Spirit regeneration.
Keeping Balance on the Wind is one of several Training Challenges in Crimson Desert. These challenges test specific traversal and movement mechanics rather than combat ability. Other training challenges include:
Sliding Down the Slope (slide for a set distance)
A Detailed Glance (observation-based challenge)
A Hill Guided by Light (navigation challenge)
